For those of you who don't use custom paths, why?

I use both custom and existing path. Is fun when run around cause I have different sound! Sometimes loud sometimes is silent. Interesting part for me

A combination of all the things that have been mentioned. I like the paths the game gives us, they look very natural. I enjoy hearing the tippy tap foot sounds and not having them feels kinda weird to me. A lot of the custom paths look jagged or lower in quality when laid out. It's really hard to make them blend in perfectly. The most important reason for me is that I want my island to be my own and downloading someone else's work doesn't give me that feeling, so I stick to what's already in our "toolbox" and use custom patterns to add some accents.

I used to use them but not anymore as i find it annoying that i have to keep on switching to find which is right,up,down, left
it gets on my nerves and sometimes i'd mess it up by using a middle one on the left and vice versa.

i prefer the original in game paths, easy to use and actually cute imo

Oh yeah, the actual developed paths for the game look really good and they're tailor-made to the game itself.
I understand people want to make them in our own paths and everything and pixel art can be good sometimes, sometimes also it can look bad and out of place.

I don't mind with custom paths, but I prefer the ones from the game. I like the sounds of them and designs are great (my favorite is arched tile path).

this thread really helped me get over my obsession with finding the right custom paths for my island, i was feeling so overwhelmed. i’m definitely gonna figure something out with the paths in the game now

also that’s so true about the sounds though, it’s a dealbreaker for sure

My biggest issue is the lack of sound effects - The lack of sound while running on custom paths feels a little bit jarring, and I can't really explain why.

i dont use them because it doesnt make sense to me to not hear sounds when i walk over them. if we could assign sounds to them, id probably use them. although, i do have a few dirt patches here and there that i use custom designs for because i think it makes enough sense for the dirt to not make as much sound when i walk over it

i do use some custom paths, but all the times i’ve reset have been because i feel overwhelmed by choices. using mostly in-game paths has been a helpful challenge to work within limited possibility haha!

a little surprised but also relieved to see so many other people dislike the custom path footstep sound! that's my main hurdle too. right now the only custom "paths" in my game are patterns that replicate the dirt patches in population growing, so the sound is a little less jarring.

also, i just don't have time for all that 😂 having to search out an appropriate pattern, individually save each tile, and lay them out in the right order...? phew 😷

I really like how the game-provided paths sound and I don’t have to mess around with the design portal thing AT ALL!

There are a few reasons but in all honesty I would like to use custom paths a bit more than I do now (e.g. for borders) but I have a card time finding codes for the ones I like...

Any suggestions?

The lack of sound on custom paths put me off. Also all the hilarious but insane drama about "crediting" I see on instagram etc. I only got instagram to look at AC stuff and jeeeeez it was just flooded with dramatics over that stuff.

It's not that deep, it really isn't. Language only developed because people borrowed words from each other and nobody screamed at anyone else about being credited for certain words. If you upload your "art" to a platform that's literally there for others to access and use the designs of, then you lose any rights you feel you had over that design. Forcing other people to credit for a path they used on their own island, otherwise risk bullying from the designer's friends or doxxing is some asshat level ish. Serious entitlement and ego issues with these people, it's crazy.

So that put me off ever using custom paths. Though if I was approached and told to credit I would be like "lol no" and not do it. Good luck doxxing me. Just bothers me they treat people (especially minors) so badly and still expect to have their praises sang about their designs on someone else's pics. Ugh.

I don't have Nintendo Internet. But if I did, I wouldn't use them anyway due to the lack of sound effects. It just feels right to use the regular pathways!

What styles/aesthetics do you like? I can take a look around for you.

I feel like the path options given to us in-game work well, I like their sound effects and I have much more control over them when placing them. I don't really feel the need to download like 50 custom designs for The Path or anything like that and don't really feel like dealing with actually trying to place them. The only sort of "custom path" I do use is a fully transparent tile just to make sure flowers don't grow in certain spots on my island.

Honestly the in-game paths look better (to me). I like the simplicity of it and while I would prefer a greater degree of flexibility in terms of placement I'm not willing to dedicate 10+ custom design slots to give me that flexibility.

Plus if I'm remembering my pre-reset island correctly it was a pain to accidentally erase part of the path when going about my daily business. That's probably user error, but why take the risk when I can just have brick paths I like.

I would use custom paths 100% but I cannot take all my paths all around my island sounding like I am walking on a picnic blanket. PLEASE nintendo I wish you changed that 😭 I could have had my green kero kero bricks that I spent so long on....

honestly it’s largely due to laziness lmao. like everyone else has said the sound is definitely a factor, but i don’t really play enough with sound on for that to bother me *too* much. it’s more that i don’t want to go and find a path i like, download all the slots, and then take the time to lay it down all over my island, when i could just boot up island designer and speed through a whole area. i did. have The Path on a section of my previous island, and every now and then i toy with the idea of having a very urban island with proper roads, but i like the ingame paths enough that i’m not too fussed about going out of my way to find alternatives

It feels like too much of a hassle for me to track them down, and I'm not enough of an artist to come up with my own.
