For those of you who don't use custom paths, why?

I prefer the pre-set paths for a couple of reasons. One of which I discovered I really hate. You can accidentally pick up a custom pattern off the ground if you're not careful, and it's such a pain. I was pulling up weeds and have more than once pulled up a custom pattern off the ground. Also, like most of you have mentioned, the weird sound effect when walking on them.

With the pre-set ones, there is a bit more customization, like rounding the corners or making weird design patterns with them. I like it. I do wish they had more options, but I'm happy with what we have. I use the terra-cotta cobblestones quite a lot.

For the most part I don't use paths at all. It's a long tedious process and my island isn't really setup for them. I have my stores at the front of the island and I use paths there and to resident services. I used to have a small one on the second level but removed it when I made my farm. I have mostly used real paths except this year I did seasonal/holiday paths and I used custom ones(I have zero artistic ability so I won't even attempt to make my own). I used a dirt path that had leaves, acorns, mushrooms etc along the edges for fall. Took me ages to get it right, mostly my own fault for not knowing what I was doing. I orginally placed it over the cobblestone path I had thinking it simply repalced it. Not an issue until I found that one piece wasn't translucent(this seemed odd to me that it was only one). I was bummed cause it looked good with the cobblestone effect but once I removed the old path I had no problems. Then I found a really pretty christmas path(brick with bells and garland on the edges) and that was easy to do. The real paths do look better in general though. After christmas I will likely go back to the real paths. Also as stated by others these paths take up a lot of design spaces which sucks. And I really really hate that I can accidentally remove pieces of it and I do this ALOT(this is highly annoying).

I use both custom paths and in-game preset paths. I think the custom ones look nicer but since they don't sound as nice, it's a tradeoff. And it takes longer to put custom paths down. On the other hand, it can take longer to remove preset paths.

I like that preset paths show up on the map so that the map looks more realistic. But I also wish that the preset paths looked better at single width, since I like narrow, winding paths. The preset paths don't really fill the whole grid square when they are single width.

too much effort to put them down, they can take up a lot of design slots, and they can accidentally be removed. the sound is also not appealing, though that is not much of a factor for me personally because I usually play with the game turned down.

Whenever you use Custom Patterns they don't make much of a sound when you walk over them. You can hear it but its very soft. Which is one of the reasons I went back to using Brick Patterns when Terraforming on the 2nd island because I miss that sound of you walking on it and it sounds very smooth. Don't get me wrong Custom Design patterns are great, but if there was one issue I had is that when you walk over them it doesn't make a sound. Not to mentioned if you try to make like a big custom design of like say a art or picture of someone you need to get pieces of the custom design to put them together and that could take a long time to complete.

I really like that we finally have official ac paths and thats why i only use them. I also like how it helps keep the look simple and organized.

I used to use the custom paths, now I got rid of them to keep my island loader faster and to add the old sound back

I used custom paths during Halloween. Not only did it take me forever to put them all down, but it took just as long to take them all off. So now I have zero interest in custom paths in general. I have a dirt path through most of my island, and a stone path near my house. It all looks natural, which is exactly what I want for my island, so it works good enough for me.

Nothing really detailed, that's just why I don't use custom paths.
