For those who will able to play at midnight...

I'm in the 9p crowd. I don't like the idea of adjusting my system clock to trick the game. I want to stay true to the game's inherent system.

I was wondering if it was possible to play it earlier by adjusting my time to California's TZ actually. And then I realized -- I don't think that that'll trick the system? Because when it releases at 9 PM on that device, it'll be 11 PM for me... Which is the exact same time that the game releases for me anyway.

And I'm sure that we all went to our Switches and adjusted it a day ahead or whatever and set it to midnight on March 20, it still wouldn't release it. I am sure that their eShop system is smarter than that.

It's available 12am EST on 3/20, which would be 9pm PST on 3/19. So it just depends on your time zone.

I believe it'll be available at 12am wherever you are, so it'll be a rolling release with Australia/New Zealand getting their hands on it first and then moving across. So it wouldn't matter that it was 9pm PST cause they'd still have to wait until midnight, does that make sense?

Either way I've got the themed switch coming, though Amazon is saying it'll be delivered on the 21st and I'm really hoping that's wrong! But another day won't kill me.... I don't think. I won't be able to concentrate on my work much though!

It's possible they might do that. But I know for ACNL I was able to download and play at 9pm the day before it was released. And when Gamestop does "midnight releases" for games, they always do it at 9pm where I live (California).

I really hope your Switch ends up coming on release day though!

Ah that's cool, maybe it's a West Coast thing. Well fingers crossed then!

And thanks. Haha. It's fine, I work from home anyways and my office window looks directly out onto my drive so I can see if I'm getting deliveries for my business so I'll just.... be watching.

I believe it's region driven, not collectively across the entire game. I'm in the PST zone of North America, so I should be able to play at 9p, seeing as it'll be 12a in the EST zone.

Oh I never knew that Animal Crossing would be out at midnight on 3/20/2020. I'm getting it digitally.

I will not. Given the Resident Services tent is open 24/7, seems like there's little need to time-travel to morning hours.

If EbGames does a West Coast 9pm release I will set the in game clock back 4 hours. I did this with ACNL because I play around 9pm every night. When I did this I was able to play events and order items before 5 pm. If it's system clock only than I'm not changing the clock. A game I play will take things like event items and money if you time travel with the system clock. I worked too hard getting those items.

I bought a digital copy for my 2nd switch but don't have plans on starting that one first.

I've been looking forward to picking my copy of the game the morning of the 20th, and don't really want to give up on that small ritual. It'll just feel more right to me to have the time in-game and outside match up as well (plus I like the date?3/20/20?better, if that ends up on any of our player/Island information)

The nice thing is that even players waiting will benefit from others having started early: by the time we get to the game, we'll know more and potentially be able to make better decisions. For example, OP mentioned in another thread that the four items you can choose between in the tutorial might determine which personalities move onto the Island with you. Knowing if that's true, and which goes with which, would be a huge advantage for some ^^

Seriously considering canceling my preorder and downloading digitally at midnight and getting through the tutorial and crafting some tools and then going to bed and play all day when I wake up.

I won't be playing the game at midnight because I will be picking up my game on Friday when it comes out. I prefer the physical copy anyways, but of course, my mom made the silly decision of scheduling my dad's doctor's appointment on that day and between that, we have to go grocery shopping too, so I won't be able to play till late afternoon. Kinda makes me wish I could get it at midnight, but I'll be patient. Also, good luck to those who are getting theirs at midnight! :D

If we are UK based what time can we play from?

Sorry if that has been answered already

I believe we will be able to start on 20th March at midnight GMT, like with all countries starting at their respective midnight to their timezone, we're ahead of America but behind Australia for example

i should be able to start playing at 11:30pm on 19/03/2020, if the release goes the same as new leaf's. i might change the clock, but only to make it the 20th, so i have the same starting date as everyone else.

nighttime is my favourite time of day so i'm very much going to enjoy my first experience with new horizons!

I believe it's region related. The latest time zone in the US region is EST, which is 3 hours ahead of me in PST. Theoretically and historically, I'll be able to fire up the game at 9p on 3/19 (digital copy, that is).

I had preorder at gamestop however due to the wait and the fact I could not get march 20 off...I got the game downloaded and waiting...the other copy I am giving to a friend :)

I don't think so. I return from vacation on the 19th and my plane lands ~1 hour before midnight (I live in the EST time zone), so I'll probably be tired. Regardless, I don't want to stay up late for it (I'll probably spend a loooong time in game for the first day) and I'm getting a physical copy.

I do find it funny how I'm returning from vacation on an island in Europe, having a "layover" in my hometown, and "catching another flight" to a deserted island, though. :D

Nah, I'm fine playing at whatever time (now that we know resident services is open 24/7).

I'll have the game up and will play as soon as it unlocks at 9pm...unless something at work comes up. :(

But its unlikely. So the TV is MINE at 9:00pm on March 19th! Muhahaha.
