I came across this on Instagram and felt it was sure worthy. Let me know if it's already something that has been shared.

I do miss the old Animal Crossing dialogue. It always made me laugh.

I realize they'd have to tone it down if it were ever reintroduced as some of the things they said were quite brutal, but it gave the villagers so much character and there was a real sense of accomplishment when you finally befriended them.

I can definitely see how it would be more rewarding!

I'm thinking it was also partly due to a bit of a loss in translation from Japanese to English where something might not be as abrasive in Japanese but be more abrasive when translated to English. Those nuances often don't follow into other languages, from what I've seen.

Even though I never played the first animal crossing game (because I wasn't born yet) I still like the mean dialogue from the early to mid 2000's. Sure they were mean, but it was a nice touch to have some villagers who are nice, and others who hate you and constantly tell you to shut up until you finally befriend them

I'm the one with an unpopular opinion saying that I actually don't like the rude dialogue much, I've never played population growing long enough to know how rude the villagers can be, but when I played city folk I wouldn't appreciate if the villagers were mean to me for about no good reason. Another thing is, I see people saying they want rude villagers back but as soon as the snowboys give them sass, I see them crying about it like?? It just makes no sense to me

i think the rude dialogue is hilarious (now, at least -- i know it made me feel awful at least once as a kid), but it's honestly not something i think should ever come back unless they toned it down. like, these are kids' games. young kids getting upset by and scared of resetti is why they cut his reset lectures out, after all.

there's a difference between villagers having to warm up to you (and i do miss that) and...

stuff like this.

aaa i’ve come across that post a few times! i definitely agree that the dialogue would need to be watered down a bit for the sake of younger players but i’d honestly love for this type of dialogue to come back! my villagers are absolute sweethearts but them bullying me would be fun lol.

Seeing these old screenshots make me kinda wish there were either two versions of the game - one for adults and one for kids, or options to toggle dialogue more appropriate for little kids. I don’t think that will ever happen, but still interesting to think how different our experiences playing the game would be.

I remember that I'd sometimes purposely hit villagers with nets back during the first AC just to get them riled up in order to read what they'd say lol

None of this dialogue would ever fly with today though.

These bring back memories. I'd play old AC with my grandmother and we'd cackle at the crazy dialogue together.

ACNH dialogue feels very bland and repetitive by comparison. I wish we could get an update that gave villagers more to say so they weren't always repeating themselves and each other. I like a lot of smug villagers but I'm getting sick of hearing "buongiorno" every hour of the day.
