I beat the game a few days ago and I have 68 stars. I don't really play much.

I defeated Bowser and have 61 stars.

I have 98 so far, but I'm waiting until I get 120 to go to the final Bowser battle.

65 stars. Beat Bowser.

I've got like 58 stars or something... I don't remember. Haven't played in about a week.

I have around 75, it's sooo repititive. Beat the 3 main level stars, find hidden, 1st comet, and purple comet.

The game isn't repetitive because there are a ton of galaxies.

Well I beat it today and got a few new stars after, soo... I haven't really reset up my system having just gotten back and don't feel like doing it to find out how many I had.... but I would say sixty-something.
