I am a horrible procrastinator. I don't do my homework unless it's end of the trimester.

Since it accounts for a ton of my grade, how can I motivate myself to get it done?

I only struggle with motivation to do it. I just don't want to or don't feel like it. I'll try to push it off as far as I can and I hate it.

Just imagine yourself saying "You want fries with that?".

Do your homework!

im sorry but what

I was basically saying do your homework, or you will end up with a job at McDonald's.

If you had done your homework previously, then that might not have gone over your head. ^_^

Disclaimer. There's nothing wrong with working at McCruelty.

I’d say completely put obstacles in the way of your distractions. Example: Unplug and store console. Or by blocking the bell tree forums :)

Then force yourself to do the homework and set a goal, such as achieving the best grades. If that doesn’t help then become competitive and try and beat everyone else.

Lastly pretend your deadline dates end on earlier dates (it sounds stupid I know) but this really helped me out in education.

Hope this helps.

you need to learn self-discipline

what works for me is repeatedly saying DO IT YOU DUMB ***** over and over again in my head even while im working basically non-stop constantly and you can't allow yourself to push the thought aside. you literally JUST DO IT

I'm in the same boat lmao. Three assessments due in three weeks. ://// I'm going to read over my notes tomorrow whenever I wake up and then do whichever seems easiest.

I say that now ...

I used to give myself incentives. Usually food because it was what worked for me. I'd be like "do 5 equations, get a piece of candy" or "read one chapter, get a snack" yadda yadda. Same can go for many things, you can incentive yourself with money, or time that you get to spend doing something fun. Like every paragraph you get a dollar to spend towards that game you really want.

My thought process is basically this: "do it now so you don't have to do it later." And that works for me about 98% of the time.

I def can't afford to procrastinate on my homework, I have 2 physics homework sets due each week (with about 6 problems each, doesn't sound like much but it is physics) so I always try to get my work done as soon as possible.

Just think, if you get it done as soon as possible, then if you have questions you can cask them in a timely manner. If you wait til the last minute then you're basically screwed if you have a tough question.

i tend to do homework while i'm at school, since being in a learning environment helps me focus so much better than being around the distractions and comfort of your own home. but when i am home, i just try to do it right away whether i want to or not. the longer you wait to do your work the harder it'll be to get the motivation to get it done.

Maybe if you think about getting it done asap then you can spend the rest of your time not worried about it, just relaxing!

I feel you. I have a horrible habit of procrastinating when I start feeling the pressure, which inevitably makes the pressure worse.
I do have a couple of strategies, though (YMMV):

  1. Get out of the house (if you're able). When I'm at home, my motivation tanks. Leaving the house does a few things:
    • By leaving the house, it kick starts my motivation, so when I reach my destination, I'm more willing to study.
    • The guilt factor - if I procrastinate the whole time, why did I even bother leaving the house? If I put in all that effort and accomplish nothing I feel guilty. Therefore, it motivates me to work.
    • I'm more likely to work harder for longer. Everyone's done the "I'll work on this for 1/2 an hour, then play switch for 1/2 an hour!" Except, oops, that 1/2 an hour turned into the rest of the day. By leaving the house, I'm also leaving behind those temptations.
  2. I use a productivity app called Forest. You plant a tree, and it grows for an amount of time you choose up to two hours. If you exit the app during that time, the tree withers. If the tree successfully grows, you earn points, which can be spent to plant real life trees. It is surprisingly motivating to not break a tree growing streak, and it feels good to plant a real tree.

  3. The illusion of judgement is also surprisingly motivating. I study better when my boyfriend is home than when I'm by myself, because even though he claims he doesn't judge me for being lazy, I'm still convinced he judges me a little bit LOL. So I try to study in the evenings after dinner when he's around. It's also motivating to think that if I study hard during the week, I can enjoy my weekend more.

Turn off and/or remove distracting apps and games. It might be a bit hard removing Internet, especially with writing essay and such nowadays. But yeah turn off your phone for real (unless you can eg. work with it on or need to have it on for reason, use that app mentioned above maybe?).

And don't go sneaking on random forums, Steam etc. if you need to use the computer.. even if the feels are strong.
