Hello! Ive tried reading a bunch of guides on this and they are all kind of vague about things, but how much fencing and how much furniture did you end up needing to bump up to the third star rating? I've dumped about 50-60 fences everywhere and have 7 villagers, but now Isabelle is asking for more crafted furniture? I've gotten a lot of the bigger things like the lighthouse, the silo, 2 outdoor baths, 2 streetlamps, a bunch of smaller miscellaneous pieces of furniture... Are there specific furniture items people have found to be helpful? Thank you!

I'm starting to think the whole thing is scripted for the first few days, provided you're making an effort to make the town good.

What I mean is:

You'll start out with 1 star. It's impossible to get 2 or more stars on the day you unlock the rating system.
On day 2, provided you've earn it, you'll have 2 stars. It's impossible to get 3 or more stars on day 2.
On day 3 you'll have 3 stars.

I've flooded the heck out of my town with fences and items, only to get 2 stars on day 2.

I'm on day 2 today, and I will continue flooding the town with flowers, fences, trees, and items to see if jumping from 2 to 3 star is possible within the same day.

I do have 7 villagers, and 1 empty plot, so I have more than enough, as I've read others have done it with 6 villagers.

I've placed over 100 fences, and probably close to 100 items. 1/2 of which I crafted, the other half obtained through villagers, store, and Miles.

I've placed so many items, you see one at almost every inch of the town.

That would be interesting to know if it's all just a scripted thing and you have to wait 3 days, regardless of how much you decorate your island. Or if anyone has managed to achieve 3 stars rating within 1 or 2 days.

it is definitely starting to feel scripted! I've put out so many things-- I'm just going to wait until tomorrow for someone new to move in and see if that changes anything

i'm on "day 2" and currently have 2 stars.. i have 7 villagers currently but isabelle still mentions increasing the population as well as more outdoor furniture, which i'm putting more of everywhere.. i have my 8th villager moving in tomorrow, so i'll see if that bumps it up to 3 or not.

Hi! I have no clue if it's scripted, but here's what I did to get my 3 stars.
I don't remember how many days it took because I personally didn't care to keep count/go ham for the 3 stars. I just put out things that fit the image of the island I had in my head.

1. Deweed the entire island. I hated the weeds, so this was just sort of natural for me.

2. Move in all 10 villagers.

3. Nook mile items and outdoor items. I think by the time I got 3 stars I had 10-ish?
-Tea cups
-Jungle gym
-Elephant slide
-Toy spring-ride thing? It's yellow and in the shape of a horse or something.
-Cotton candy machine
-3 fountains
-outdoor bath
-Football

3. Bridges/Inclines. I had about 4ish bridges and 3 inclines done.

4. Flowers. I had about 50, with only two or three being hybrids.

5. Fruit trees. Most all of the trees on my island were native and foreign fruit trees.

I've just threw down 10 more DIY furniture
30 fences
30 full grown trees.

Still 2 star.

Going to get 30 fully grown flowers now and spread them access multiple acres. If this doesn't push me to 3, I don't know what else to do.

My town is getting so full of nonsense it's both comical and irritating

Its definitely scripted, the only thing holding you back is how many villagers you have. I had 300+ flowers, 120+ fencing, and 50 + outdoor items since before I had the evaluation system. On the first day I unlocked evaluations, I got 1 star. The second day, I got 2 stars. The third day (today), I finally got 3 stars. The only thing that's changed has been villagers moving in. On day 1 I only had 6 villagers, day 2 I had 7, and day 3 I have 8.

Although the more I try, the more I'm sure I am not seeing 3-Star until tomorrow, I've tried some more things.

Landscaping:
- Added at least 10 more Palm Trees to the beach
- Added over a dozen more fruit trees.
- Added nearly 50 more fully grown flowers
- Watered nearly every flower in my town.

Decorating
- Brought 3 new DIY recipes from Town Hall and made 1 of each

Still 2-Star unfortunately.

I'm going to stop now. I'm sure tomorrow morning, without changing a thing, Isabelle will be telling me I have 3-Stars

I had 8 villagers when it happened for me. I think you need to have at least 8 for it to happen, but im not a 100% sure.

Some online guides have said 6-7 minimum required for 3-Stars. I do have an empty plot for a new (8th) villager though. So if my score doesn't go to 3 automatically as I am assuming it will, my Amiibo will be vising as a camper for the 3rd time tomorrow, so I'll get her to move into the 8th plot provided it doesn't sell to a random villager when the new day starts tomorrow. So if not tomorrow, I'll have 3-Stars on Wednesday :/

So you have to wait 3 days, then see what Isabelle wants? Might as well place all available house plots in the meantime....

I read somewhere (can no longer link to it, unfortunately) that Isabelle's island evals only get refreshed once a day.

I know somebody who got theirs to drop from 2 to 1 and then back to 2 in the same day (Yesterday). Whether or not going higher is possible during the first couple days, IDK.

I am on day 3 and still at 2 stars.

Before heading in to work, I placed 40 more fences, and 7 more DIY furniture. Still 2-stars, but my amiibo camper has agreed to move in, so I've now sold my 8th plot. If anything, I may finally have 3-star tomorrow.

I'm guessing the one thing I should increase is bridges and ramps. That maybe the final piece to the puzzle. I just know it'll be a waste because I'll be demolishing it when I get terraforming.

thank you for keeping us updated like that! its very interested to read. just unlocked the first star and this is valuable info.

You're welcome. It's possible everything I may be doing is futile right now due to the number of villagers and bridges/slops. So one thing I'd probably do differently if I could start over is to build at least 1 slope, and maybe another bridge if the slope didn't work.

I may have maxed out the possible score one can achieve from the little things. I'm probably good on fences, trees, flowers, and furniture. The game is probably expecting more villagers, bridges, and slopes at this point.

Could be possible the game is awarding you 1 star for every category. Something like

You start with 1-star
1-star > (Landscaping) good amounts of flowers, and trees + no weeds
1-star > (decor) good amounts of fencing and furniture
1-star > good population
1-star > bridges/slopes

Total of 5 stars.

it definitely seems scripted.

I did everything all the guides said and went around like a maniac throwing flowers, furniture and trees everywhere (as we all did) and isabelle told me to craft more furniture. I crafted more furniture. Isabelle told me to buy furniture with nook miles. I bought furniture with nook miles. Isabelle told me to craft more furniture. I crafted more furniture. Isabelle told me to craft more furniture. I decided to give up for the night and leave things as they were.
I woke up the next morning, and isabelle told me that there was no need to do any more landscaping or decorating because I had already done a great job, and all I need to do is expand the population.

so that was a rollercoaster.

Isabelle's suggestions are randomized from just that, a list of suggestions. She isn't verbatimly telling you what needs to be done. If you talk to her multiple times in a row, you'll see she is just cycling through them.

How many bridges and slopes do you have? I was trying to do the bare minimum, following guides too, but have been unable to reach 3 stars in my current state.

I have
7 villagers
1 Bridge
0 Slopes.

The reviewers and guides fail to state how many bridges and slopes they had when unlocking terraforming. But I have heard you need around 6-7 villagers minimum.

Since I am now on day 3, while still at 2-stars, and I know someone personally who was fluctuating back-and-forth between 1 and 2 stars yesterday, it may not be scripted.

Ankha is moving in tomorrow as my 8th villager, and I will be funding a slope today. For sure the game is going to finally give me 3-stars tomorrow.
