I tried to search and find the specific post/thread, but couldn't find it.
I remember reading a post from a user on these forums that they gave tools to some of their villagers and their villagers would use them. I got super excited about this information and decided to give my villagers new tools to use, too! I knew doing so would mess up their house a bit, but I figured I'd just regift them the items they replace.
I specifically gave them new fishing rods, nets, and watering cans. I gave Olivia a new umbrella as well. All of my villagers began using the new items as soon as I went into and out of a building.
Most of my villagers homes were easy to fix (Judy basically added a watering can to her house. Previously there was nothing there, so I gave her a pink nova light to replace it and her house looks cute as heck with her purple crescent moon chair as well!), but then there were two villagers in particular that I still have yet to fix their homes: Deirdre and Fang.
Fang replaced two pieces of his antique furniture, but I don't have one of them in my catalogue to gift it back to him, so he'll have to wait a bit.
Deirdre replaced her mushroom lamp and will not put one back up despite me giving her two of them. I'm sure this has something to do with villagers only displaying seasonal items during the corresponding season, so it seems like she just won't have a mushroom lamp again until the autumn season. ):
Has anyone else decided to give villagers new tools? Which tools did you give them? Do you care about how their interior looks and try to fix their homes? Maybe you regret giving them gifts? I don't regret it myself, but I wish that it was a lot easier to decorate their homes. I'd like to hear how others went about this, and how difficult or easy it was for you to fix if you did so!
