Gross or satisfying?

Lately I’ve been watching those so-called “satisfying” videos. Like those rug-cleaning videos where they spray years’ worth of filth off of them… The videos where they remove a horse’s shoe and scrape all the dirt out of it. Those kind of things. My sister thinks it’s gross and doesn’t get the whole “satisfying” part of it. Honestly, I think it’s a bit of both— removing the dust and crust is what makes it satisfying.
So what do you think? (Edit: No hate towards my sister. She’s as entitled to her opinion as I am to mine.)

I don’t have an opinion either way, but I can see how it’s gross and satisfying. Those types of videos were never really my thing.

I watch soap-making videos sometimes, where this guy makes these swirling, colorful soap bars. I used to make pottery, so I enjoy pottery videos too. And this one photo of perfectly-lined coffee layers melted my heart. But I really like the cleaning-type ones for whatever reason….

i said gross and satisfying. i don't watch very much of the rug cleaning asmr but i kind of like it because you can see the clean part of the rug vs whats left of the dirty parts. recently i've been watching clay cracking asmr, i don't watch it often though.

oh do i freaking LOVE watching the rug cleaning videos! Omg it’s so amazing to see the dirtiest things become so dang clean! I also LOOOVE watching horses getting their shoes changed! You know it just feels so good to them afterwards. ugh i love it!

I love soap-making! The colors and swirls are so therapeutic, it's amazing to see all the different things people can do with soap. I was never very good at pottery

I have to be honest... I had no clue these types of videos existed. I don't want videos much online so I hadn't heard of them. I have seen horses shoed in real life (I've actually helped clean horse hooves and helped keep them calm while being shoed) and have always loved seeing how happy the horse was when it's hooves were all clean. It makes the horse feel better. Now I'm intrigued as to what these "satisfying" videos are.

These are my things to watch when I cant go to sleep at 1 in the morning. Yeah they’re gross, but its like a horror movie (which I also love), where You have to keep watching no matter how gross.

This might be different (but along the same ASMR-y lines), but when I was studying I used to listen to YouTube videos of thunderstorm sounds, water bubbling sounds, dishwasher sounds, washing machine sounds etc. They’re so cozy!

I’ve always had trouble sleeping, and the one thing that knocks me out is a lot of noise. When I go to bed, I have a ceiling fan on as well as a smaller white noise machine. We’re usually surrounded by some sort of noise, so it makes sense that I keep it on.

I’ve always had trouble sleeping, and the one thing that knocks me out is a lot of noise. When I go to bed, I have a ceiling fan on as well as a smaller white noise machine. We’re usually surrounded by some sort of noise, so it makes sense that I keep it on.

I also love to use my ceiling lamp, but so that it blocks out the house noises. Its definitely the perfect white noise machine!

Mostly its not that I dont sleep well. I actually sleep like a log. I also fall asleep pretty fast as well. Its mostly me not wanting the day to end, so I go to sleep really late. Revenge bedtime procrastination.

Somewhat similar; I love watching antique item restoration videos, where there's an item that's super dirty and rusted, and they make it look like new! It's ultra satisfying. Power-washing videos are fun too.

It's only gross if they intentionally dirty up the item so they can clean it for views.

Gross, because how can someone leave it dirty for so long? And Satisfying, because seeing all that filth gone and it being sparkly new again is very satsifying to look at.

The rug cleaning or power washing vids I don’t find gross, just satisfying; however, I’ve never watched the horseshoe type of videos you describe but based on the description alone I would consider that gross, mostly because it sounds like animal abuse and even though it might be satisfying to see the horseshoe get clean, I wouldn’t like seeing an animal suffering initially. (Edited to add that I don’t know anything about horses so I don’t actually know if them having dirty shoes is abuse, it just sounds like it to me). It makes me think of those videos of neglected dogs getting groomed and having 20 lbs of matted hair shaved off of them. I wouldn’t really consider watching that satisfying even though the animal is clean + happy at the end, just because how the video started is so sad

I understand. I’ve never heard of the dog videos you’ve described.
From what I’ve read, horseshoes are put the parts of their hooves without nerves. This means that they don’t feel pain when they are put on or off. I researched this, as I had the same initial concerns. But from what I gather, cleaning a hoof feel no different than getting our nails trimmed. It’s not like “I haven’t cleaned this in years!” More like a routine cleaning.
However, if you are against horseshoes altogether, I understand why because it is jarring at first. I do not watch any hoof videos involving diseases or “bubbles” because it’s not a routine cleaning.

it's like a wee bit gross but it's really amazing to see the outcome. a fun "satisfying" video i love to watch are those baumgarter art restoration videos, i could watch those for HOURS. and i'm not even an artsy person.
rug cleaning videos had my brain in a vice grip for like a solid month.
i also grew up watching the hoarders TV show so any slight dirty things don't phase me that much. those crime scene cleanups are gut-wrenching and i cant watch those but i do enjoy seeing them clean after? it's just haunting.

Definitely satisfying! I love when they glide through the middle and you see the clean part where the cleaner has just been. I'm the same with vacuum cleaners when they vacuum the mess!

I like to watch those videos too. They’re so satisfying to me. Watching all the dirt being washed away and it looking all clean.
