its a goofy "holiday" every Feb.2d where according to i think centuries-old folklore, if a groundhog comes out of his burrow and roams around then it means there will be an early spring, but if it sees its shadow and retreats back into its burrow then it means an extra six weeks of winter. pretty sure its only in America, but i think other countries have similar traditions/festivals re forecasting winter or summer based on the local fauna.... i dunno for some reason everyone learns about it as a kid but nobody actually celebrates it i guess except for a few towns in Pennsylvania where they have festivals and stuff. every year the weather segment of the news will show video from these festivals and chuckle about the groundhog's forecast.
also, there was a popular movie starring Bill Murray called
Groundhog Day where every day kept repeating itself. so since the movie, some people will use the expression "groundhog day" to refer to a deja vu experience...
