I have Boomer, a lazy penguin, on my island.

Out of nowhere, he started calling me, “human.” He’s never said this before and I haven’t had a visitor in forever.

I just assumed the villagers would think I was just another species in the mix. I’ve never had a villager call another villager by whatever their species (cat, penguin, dog, etc) is.

Isn't it a catchphrase? If I recall, Boomer's catchphrase is "human" and villager catchphrases tend to be unique
Doing a quick research, this is correct.
Is it possible, that for some reason, that his dialogue never ended with his catchphrase before or you just happen to not notice it before then?

Wow. This is the first time he’s ever said it!

Usually, he calls me whatever is going around the island via the villagers.
