Hi!

I've been away from the game for quite some time as I've been busy with entering senior year of university.
So now I'm getting back into things after the update! And can stay because I improved my time management a lot!

But....it looks like things have died down a ton, maybe even more than they did before the update. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to play for my own personal enjoyment, but I kinda wanna be able to engage with the AC communities again and look forward to showing off my DA.

Do you think the communities have gone too quiet to expect that? I only kinda reviewed Bell Tree, so I'm not sure about different Discords & Reddit.

I'll try to explain this and I may have said this in another thread, but I'll say here. I think it was by August 2020 when everyone finally stopped playing and even though that they released the 2.0 update back in November 2021. The thing is people have already moved on or given up on the game so it was already too late.

If they would've just released this content in 2020 maybe then game would've had more longevity in it to keep going just like New Leaf, but it was how the pacing of the way they did the updates was so slow. I know there is argument to be had that the pandemic had something to do with the development but still that doesn't excuse them for releasing a half baked game that costs like $60

There’s definitely not as much activity as there once was, but I’m not sure how dead it is considering I haven’t looked too much into it.

I'm sure things have naturally slowed down, but there are still quite a few people who play daily/frequently and post regularly on TBT. 😊 I think there's still plenty of discussion in the New Horizons thread, and it's still easy to find items you might be looking for on the Nook's Cranny board. Other than TBT and the TBT discord server, I don't really use any other AC communities, so I couldn't say for them.

I feel like for any video game 2 years from release the player base will have decreased at least somewhat. New games come out, or people finish their personal goals with the game and move on, it’s not a bad thing, just natural.

I know I am still playing a lot. And I think other people are too.

I imagine if things are quieter around here part of it is that many of the discussions early on involved people asking about game mechanics and asking for opinions on this or that feature. Now that the game has been out so long, that information is readily available, so there would be less urgent topics coming up. And in terms of items or villagers I feel like it will have slowed down a lot because at this point people have what they need, plus the 2.0 update made it much easier to get everything in game - and the new villager amiibo cards made it easy to get previously highly sought villagers.

My sense is that there are still users here everyday, for example if you ask a question you’ll get a response fairly quickly.

I’m not a YouTube person, so can’t say about that, but on Instagram I see people posting a lot of I’m game pictures everyday.

In terms of sharing something like a DA, i think people will visit. But the game isn’t new anymore, so it isn’t as fast paced. It might take a while to accumulate responses/ feedback.

Yeah, it's a bit more on the slow side and I think that's to be expected. The AC reddit still looks active from just checking and Twitter is very much alive with people updating their dream addresses or building new areas/custom designs. I see it constantly on my feed.

I still play my game and check this area for new topics or check out journals/screenshots. It's still a pretty loved game but I think the overall feeling is a bit burnt out.

The hype died down, like with other new games, but the community hasn't. Currently I'm playing the new Kirby game but that doesn't mean I've given up on ACNH. Most of AC's online communities are alive and well.

Yeah, the game will always be at its peak during the beginning of release. I think that’s why I prefer to get games as early as possible. I like being part of that excitement. I think the community is still active, but it’s definitely not the same.

I think a lot of the Animal Crossing fans come and go when they play. I haven't played in quite a while but I'm back, and my friends do the same.
The fanbase is just not super consistent I feel. It's defiantly not as large as it was at launch but that's just to be expected. I still think it's a popular game though.

I haven’t played animal crossing in a while, I’m one of those people who comes and goes

I’m not saying the forum and community is dead, but it definitely isn’t as lively as the beginning of release.

The 2.0 update definitely brought people back but from what I saw, the hype died down really fast and yeah, things seem slower. It's interesting since New Leaf's hype and activity seemed to last longer. New Horizons has only been out for two years and it's already snoozing. Not sure if it's because its audience this time was older than NLs, therefore meaning that they have more responsibilities irl? Or maybe everyone being locked away due to Covid when the game came out meant lots burnt out and now that you can basically go anywhere and hangout with anyone, people are choosing that? Who knows the reason but it's interesting.

I think it depends on where you’re looking. The reddit seems to be still going strong. I’m also on a few discord servers of AC youtubers and their audience has only grown over the last 2 years. As far as TBT it’s been ebbs and flows since I joined. I’m not even currently playing AC, but im still active on it due to the community being so fun, welcoming, and adorable. For me it’s the community atmosphere that keeps me going back to NH. Just seeing everyone post their progress or ideas makes me a little inspired so then I get back into it.

I think even with New Leaf it was a game that had its ebbs and flows. I think that’s a huge part of the beauty of the game for me. Like you can take a break from it and go back to it, and fall in love with it all over again.

Also considering there is no more updates, yeah I'd say so. No worth while changes/updates were given to peak interest in the game for most people.

Nintendo seems to care more about Pocket Camp than anything. Constant updates and events.

Considering that the game (Pocket Camp) has Microtransactions with the Leaf Tickets I am not surprised. Its gotten so much more content than New Horizons.

I rarely come on this site now because it’s always the same topics circling around anyway but on Reddit, Discord, Twitter it’s still pretty active. Definitely not as much as before but even for ACNL the community was waaaaay less active after 2 years. ACNH just sold an additional 1 million copies in the last quarter so the game is still doing really well actually.

I've had periods of ACNH inactivity, but I've been playing nearly every day. Not much though. It's like Tomodachi Life which it'd be nice to have a Switch version that was backward compatible with the 3DS versions to form a cohesive international version that also includes Miitomo clothing. I digress though.

A typical session involved me digging up fossils and getting them appraised to sell and then do the multiplier Nook Mile+ items. I've been also gifting certain villagers items so they can give me their photos. I also haven't had all my dreamies yet and there villagers along the way that I'd like to invite into town so I can get their posters. If you visit my island, I have all the posters of the villagers that I've had in my town except one and almost in the order that they moved in.

Since there isn't much to get excited about anymore, I would say it's died down quite a bit for sure. I go through my phases as well where I don't play for a little bit. I just find other games more interesting these days.

But like with any game, the excitement and hype dies down eventually. I think the community is still here though. Maybe just not as active.

IMO what really hurt this games longevity was the pacing. They went too long without releasing anything much and then released everything they had been holding back at once. Then announced there will be nothing else.... so not well managed and maybe intentionally to get the non-diehards looking elsewhere to raise more money on new games.
