Have you ever wanted/shunned a villager because of their name?

kind of related, but i speak korean and found out that marshal's korean name is joonie/junie (쭈니) which i love so much more than marshal! i still like marshal a ton but i wish that was his english name. in japanese it's also jun, so i have no idea why they decided on marshal. i think it's also a similar story for raymond and his jp/kr names!
 
I believe there are some villagers that I wanted because I thought their name was cute. I kinda wanted Samson — only because he shared his name with an antagonist in Dragon Age Inquisition. Part of the reason I became interested in Cole was because he shared his name with a character from that game and the novel Asunder. I still want Cole; I think he’s cute and his appearance seems appropriate to represent that character in my island journal.

I think those are it.

I did start being somewhat interested in some others partially because of their names (most if not all back in NL) like I thought Poncho was cute I like Lopez. I already liked Ankha’s design but I also love her name. Pudge - I started showing interest in him when someone on here posted a HHD picture of him in a sailor’s hat and top. 🥺 But I do find his name incredibly cute too.
 
I mean, I like a cute name, but it's very low on my priority list. I'm also not opposed to having villagers with the same names as friends or family- I had Molly for awhile 'cause she's precious, and that's my best friend's name.

The one thing that kind of bugs me is villagers with the same names as my human characters. Like, I renamed my side character (her name was Hazel) because I wanted the option of having that unibrow (and the squirrel attached to it) on my island without it being weird. Now none of my humans shares names with villagers... except phonetically. Which does bug me a little. I love Bunnie, but I have Bunny, and Katt has grown on me, but my main character is Cat. So... yah. IDK if I'll ever have them on this island since it would bug me that, if the game were real, it'd be confusing.

Oh, and I ALWAYS appreciate a solid pun name. Ursala is one of the cutest villagers already... but that name? It pushes her over the top, and she's literally my favorite villager.
 
Well, Dora reminds me of Dora the explorer. So whenever I see her I tend to think I’m learning Spanish or checking my map lol. Thank god she’s not on my island.

I think I’m the only one, but I can’t help but think that Raymond the cat was named after Raymond from “Everyone loves Raymond”. Think about it, we have a very popular cat, and I truly do think someone from Nintendo was watching Everyone loves Raymond when they were naming him. Well at least that’s my logic. Am I bothered by it? Nah not really as I have a odd brain.

Kiki is very close to my friend’s username on Ushi by an extra letter, and the mentioned friend didn’t know that the cat existed until last October when she came to visit and saw her lol.

What I’d love is A villager with the name Sophia. Totally the golden girls moment. We have a Blanche, and I guess Rosy counts As Rose, Nintendo give me a Sophia XD

I don't think I've ever shunned anyone for their name except maybe Jay. Jay is awful, I hate him and I'm sorry for that bird.

There are some names though that I think are terrible! Like "T-Bone", "Pancetti", "Chops" or "Pate". At least "Pate" sounds kind of cute, but the meaning behind it is horrible and her parents must have been horrible ducks for naming her that. "Chops" is bad for the same reasons and doesn't even sound all that great. I don't want to think about chopping up my friends into pieces and cooking them, that's just not my kind of humor. I'm okay with food names that are not directly related to what you could make that animal into, such as "Cookie," "Maple" or "Cherry", but anything meat-related is awful. I still love Chops though and his stupid name isn't enough for me to shun him, but I think he deserves better.
 
I’m going to be completely honest here. I dislike the villager Marina simply because of her name. She shares a name with someone who used to bully me in elementary school. A lot of people would pick on me, but she stood out from the rest as she was always involved in most of the insults or just instigating them.
 
I wanted Mitzi because that was the name of one of my cats. Both of them were sweeties.

I love the name Violet so when I opened my New Leaf game and saw that someone named Violet was moving in I was really happy! Until I looked her up and almost cried lol.
 
Kitty was one of my villagers in City Folk or Wild World and I remember keeping her for a long time because I loved that we shared the same name, even if I wasn't totally in love with her design.

I did NOT like Dom initially, largely because of his name lol, but he grew on me a lot and he eventually became a permanent resident. I found out his name was Chachamaru in Japanese and I think that's way cuter so I use variations of that for his greeting and catchphrase.
 
i haven’t shunned her but i’ve been hesitant to have nana on my island as “nana” is what i refer to my grandmother as and i don’t have a good relationship with her 😅. i’ll likely have her on my island one day, though as she’s adorable and i’d love to get to know her. ^_^
 
Not gonna lie, I would have chosen Julia as my snooty if it weren't for the unfortunate fact that she shares my name! Even though my in game character has a different name from my real one, it'd still be awkward. 💀

Sadly, I have to pass on that beautiful bird... Maybe an AU Chungus will get to have Julia on her island...
 
Oh yes there is a villager out there that shares a name that I really REALLY don't like and its the name "Freckles" this is going to be an embarrssing story I am going to say that my past self will kick me for this, but I once had an encounter with someone with freckles and they rubbed their face on me and at the time I was afraid I would get Freckles on me but turns out I didn't.

Although thinking about it now it was such a weird thing, but it still make me uncomfortable.

part of why i like stella (and etoile, once she came out) so much is because of the star name! i think it's a really cute name theme. also this one isn't me, but a friend of mine is named dom and he hates dom because of it. refuses to back down over the fact he shares a name with a virtual sheep. it's really funny.
 
There's a villager who has my deadname, which I hate. But I'm not a fan of him anyway.

I like Marina because I think of the musician. Plus I like T-Bone's name because I can reference Seinfeld, which is pretty much the only thing I like about him.
 
shunned agnes for a while because i hated her name, kinda wish they went with her german name instead (nora) lol.

on the other side, i like occasionally having bob on my island because his name is so funny to me for some reason
