Halloween is coming, so I want to decorate my island with some spooky flair, but I've noticed in visiting some of the popular horror islands that a lot of the same items are used - dolls, the cutting board, and custom designs with blood. I'd like to step away from that and try something a little more unique, I'm thinking my relatively normal island with some hidden creepy gems. Like, for example, I've hidden some clues that point to a murder, I've got a spooky cave, and radioactive glowing moss!

I was wondering if anyone had any particular thoughts about what they do and don't like about horror islands, or had any suggestions or advice. Thanks. :)

I like islands that have a story, so your idea intrigues me. I always thought horror islands were boring because they’re all just the same thing. I like mysterious twists that make you think.

Mine is a horror fantasy, but its not exactly easy to find until you go to one location. Lots of hints, scribbles on the ground, sand has some stick drawings. On a few walls are scratch marks or more messages here and there.

On one wall I have red butterflies going across it, but its very hard to see. But small desturbing drawings, or frantically drawn messages.

My island is based on one of my ac stories, other wise known as the backstory in general. Which is they all have grim secrets, esspecially the one who started it all. So mine is one you have to piece together what's really going on.

Story horror islands are awesome, if your looking for insperation, you could visit Evil Imp's horror island. Just look it up on youtube. Inspired mine in some places. Its honestly unlike any horror island Ive ever seen.

I think too much blood is a bit much, and kinda takes away the real spook. Areas that are generally spin chilling from the decore, or have an erroe vibe are great.

Id love to visit yours once its done ^^ It sounds like a cool idea!

Ditto on wanting to visit yours, the idea of a hidden murder sounds so neat. I love horror islands but I too also get that feeling that it's all pretty samey.

Mine has some horror elements too, I tried to give the vibe on my island that there's bad stuff that went down in the aged parts of town but that everyone's trying to move on/ignore the problem.

I'm a sucker for the kid cliche so custom designs of creepy kids drawings. Not bloody or anything but just dark lanky figures or stuff with solid black eyes.

Could do something darker such as clothes near the water to indicate a drowning.

I wish the dead trees made it back in this game. I liked that look. Not sure how to replicate it exactly... maybe with trash littered on the ground? Forests and leaf piles?

Your murder mystery idea is great though! Leaving clues around is fun!

Two years ago I remember seeing a post about a person using 2 face cutouts (with designs) and eyeball qr code hats to create an illusion that the monster was following you. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the qr codes that they were using.

I love horror islands!

I think a fun theme would be dreams/nightmares. I think that one really popular horror island (I forget the name right now) has bits like that - a banquet type room where all the chairs are toilets. Outside somewhere is an area with tons of kitchen stand mixers turned on, no explanation. Things like that - take the mundane items and turn them in to something strange. You don't always need gore and monsters for horror!

The first thing I do is to let all my weeds grow and tree branches stay where they fell. I feel it gives the island a feeling of creepy abandonment.

i was going to create a horror island that had a graveyard with a couple of dug up graves and a path that went to a creepy restaurant. i really wish the game would allow us to put masks directly onto the ground because an ax *or chainsaw* next to the hockey mask might be a cool look too. also, the damaged look works really well. im going to use a bunch of that in my own town *and its not even a creepy one*
