Correct -- although keep in mind this section of the rules:

If nobody has correctly guessed all three by the deadline, the prize will instead be awarded to the first user to correctly guess two of the characters. And of course, the first to guess one if that does not happen either.

In 2017, nobody guessed two of the bonus mirrors and this rule was used to determine the winner. So if you think you know one or two of them and think you have no hope in hell of finding the third, it may be worth a shot.

You can consider the bonus challenges to be completely separate from eachother.

That's not what I meant, my bad for the wording. I was talking about the official 6th challenge where there's three characters in one image that we need to guess!

Just to be extra clear...

The first image in the post is a normal 6th challenge with normal rules, it has one character like always.

The other three images in the post are the bonus trio with special rules, they still are separate with one character each.

Tbh any of the 3 bonus mirrors could be set as my wallpaper all year & I probably wouldn't even realize they were a puzzle Just that good

To be honest, we don't really have a strict definition set of what a Nintendo character is. Generally speaking though, we try to err more towards being 'fair' about this and avoiding characters where they are only very loosely tied to Nintendo.
