How do you actually get the amiibo villager into your town?

Hiya!

So, I have an older 3ds so I got the bundle and got the reader. I also got a few amiibo cards too. But I cant figure out how to actually get the villager into my town so he or she is a choice.

Do I have to play the game to a certain point where this is a choice? Or should I have the ability from the get go? Thanks for any help, am slightly frustrated.

I have not tested this with the villager amiibo specifically however, you do have to get to a certain point in the game to specifically choose who you are designing for. It shouldn't take too many in game days. I believe it happens not long after you...

You can't actually design for the villager as far as I'm aware. I think he just unlocks the golden statue. =/

I think this most was referring to getting villager animals, not the villager amiibo figure!

In that case, then yeah, you just need to unlock the amiibo phone first, which you get after a few designs (there was a spoiler above that had the details).
