How long to villagers move out in New Horizons after talking about it? (Not via torture, shunning, or Amiibo cards)

My starting villager Mac was in thought bubble and pitched the idea of wanting to move. I honestly do not want him to leave, but I accidentally said, "Safe Travels!" and he did not say when he was leaving, which is making me scared that he's already leaving the next day. I tried Googling this question, but all I get are search results for how to get your villager to move out, which is not what I'm looking for at all... Does anyone know if a villager who has been treated well and who wants to move on will move out 10 days after they first pitch the idea like in New Leaf, or is it different in this game?

Tomorrow he'll be in boxes, and the day after, he'll leave

I looked up if you could ask a villager to stay once they're in boxes, but I haven't seen anything on it yet. Good luck, though!

Have you already saved since then?

My game is set to autosave, so I'm sure that it's already saved my game by now. I'm not sure if asking villagers to stay when their houses are in boxes is a thing though, since that wasn't a thing in past games. It's alright, I know now so I won't make that same mistake again.

Maybe if you talk to him enough he'll start talking about having second thoughts? It worked in New Leaf. I'd hope there's some way to keep your villager after a misclick like that

Oh, I didn't know that you could do that in New Leaf. I only knew about you being able to do that first time you talk to the villager each day before they move. But I tried that just now and he's sadly got his mind set to moving :(

For me it’s always been in boxes by the next day, and gone the day after. I’ve never had an option to get them to stay :((

Aww shoot, even in New Leaf?

nono new leaf and i’m pretty sure all the other ac games had villagers give you a specific move out date, typically 5-7 days after they approach you about it. new horizons is the first time where they’re in boxes the next day ;u;

What is shunning?
New mechanic in this game, apparently. I'm hearing people report being able to intentionally ignore one particular villager (while still talking to the rest of your villagers), making them feel shunned and increasing the likelihood of them moving out because they don't want to be neglected. I have never tried this before because I honestly really like my villagers and don't want to do that, so I can't say for sure if this is actually a thing, but apparently it exists in this game. Gonna need someone to confirm though.

Ahh yeah that's what I thought. That's what I was hoping for in this game, but I'm sad that it's not the case anymore :(
