How much do you upgrade your house(s)? What do you do with them?

I went to a town where there were two castles and they were stunning. If you think about making one I would love to see it through your dream town!
That sounds really cool! I haven‘t gotten started with resetting my town yet, I still have to move all of my villagers to my second town and all of my items. When I remake my town, I’ll be sure to post my finished houses one day. 😄

I completed the upgrades, but haven't decorated the rooms yet. Still deciding what to do with them xD
I just started playing the end of last month, so my main goal is to collect items first. then see what I can do later.

For my mayor's house I have just displayed my favourite sets in each room, some of them are sanrio. In my other players house each room is themed realistically but with an almost mystical style, so bathroom, kitchen, living, dining etc. I also have two completely different exteriors for fun. One is more of a cottage look while the other is in the modern style.

I haven't really but desperataly need the storage space just havent had the funds but i do now so we will see how this goes will be wierd to have more than one room

I only upgrade when I feel like I’ve run out of room. Right now I have the loft upstairs maxed out since it has the grand piano, the planetarium downstairs, and the room on the right as the pink room that holds Sanrio stuff. I’m thinking about expanding so that there’s a small dressing room probably to the back of the house and then my house will be complete. If I want more rooms after that, I’ll probably create alts for them.

My main characters house is fully upgraded, but my second character only has the first room upgraded.
(Because I have no idea how anyone could be bothered to fully decorate a second max upgraded house, I had a hard enough time decorating my own house.)

My mayor's house is fully expanded and have Zen castle architecture, Zen exterior, Zen fence, Zen postbox, bamboo door and golden roof (my town is an eco-friendly Zen town). In the very beginning, I knew I wanted a house that is modelled after what I would find enjoyable and comfortable in real life based on the existing furnitures available in the game. It took a lot of trading and effort to decorate the rooms because a lot of the furnitures and items are Welcome Amiibo items and unobtainable unless you have the Welcome Amiibo cards or trade online. I have a tea room optimised for Feng Shui in the main room, a backyard in the room at the back on the first floor, a kitchen and dining room in the right room on the first floor, a study room in the left room on the first floor, an entertainment, bathroom and laundry room in the basement, and a master bedroom on the second floor. The only room that is not completed yet is my study room.

I have a second character that I named Office and his house is also fully expanded and have modern house architecture, beige door, brown brick exterior, green roof, metal postbox and red brick fence (it'll be my town's one and only office building). This office building is currently under renovation and the only completed room is the hybrid garden. It will contain a lobby area in the main room, a hybrid garden in the room at the back on the first floor, a garage in the right room on the first floor, a convenience store in the left room on the first floor, an arcade and entertainment area in the basement, and a posh personal office on the second floor.

I'm still contemplating on making a village centre with three rooms but I want to complete the other two buildings before I get a third one. A multipurpose hall that I can decorate for events in the main room, a gym for the jocks in my town in the room at the back on the first floor, and an observatory on the second floor that you can use to view the whole town and the sky and stars

An update here. My study room in my mayor's home is completed! :)

For the office building, renovation is going well with the completion rate for the lobby area (in the main room) at 90% , the garage (the right room on the first floor) at 90%, the convenience store (the left room on the first floor) at 95%, the arcade and entertainment area (in the basement) at 70%, and the personal office (on the second floor) at 50%. Not long now and it'll be fully completed! :)

So far I'm still contemplating about the village centre. Will keep you posted and after the completion of the office building, I'll be conducting an open day in my town for people to explore!

Wow, I didn’t know that this thread is going on still! I’ve read everyone’s posts here and I’m getting a lot of inspiration. I enjoy the creativity here and I hope others find this thread as helpful as I do! 😁

In both of my towns my mayor/personal's house only had an upgraded 2nd floor, basement, and back room. They always have a bathroom, bedroom, and misc./hobby room (or a kitchen if I can't fit in the main room). I decided not to add side rooms for my personal characters so the house shape wouldn't change into a mansion. It looks homier and cosier to me that way! My alternative characters all have fully upgraded "facility" type buildings. I've made a bed&breakfast before (my excuse to make several different bedroom type rooms!), community centre, and cafe/restaurant. In my second town I've made a general store with a cafe, fruit shop, salon, an egg nursery inspired by pokemon, and a spa. I've also made a castle with a fully expanded house. Not sure if the DAs are still working but you can view them here: Borei 4F00-0148-7A73 and Tinytree 4A00-018A-B4E0. Borei is a horror town though so beware!

WHOOPS I CLICKED ON THE WRONG FORUM this all applies to NH but it can apply to NL as well.

I'm making my house into a hotel. First room where you go in is the waiting room (reception desk, coat stand, a table or two, waiting chairs, a few plants etc). The rooms to the back, left, right, and upstairs are hotel rooms; they are all set out similarly but with a different wallpaper for each. The basement has no windows so I thought that would be mean to put someone in a hotel room with no windows, so I'm thinking of turning it into a bar.

I'm only 80,000 bells away from installing the third room so it's going well!

But seriously; the moment I started the game I knew I didn't want to make a house. I'd find it too boring. So I started thinking up other things I could turn my house into instead. I'm also going to make multiple accounts so I can create a spa, restaurant, and resource centre for my island. Maybe try thinking outside the box and collecting furniture becomes a LOT more fun. I don't buy based on what I particularly like, I buy based on what fits my hotel/spa/restaurant/whatever, and it forces me outside of my comfort zone. It also forces you to be a lot more creative; for example, my reception desk is 2 diner tables put together against a corner. It gets really fun trying to make your house match real-life hotels/spas/restaurants you've seen!

Good luck!

I have all the rooms you can get in a house, but I don‘t expand them, I only expanded the living room, basement, and upstairs. I usually just make a random room of some furniture that I quite like and make it look cool.
