sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I just have a question regarding commission etiquette!

How soon is too soon to message someone about a commission you paid for?

I paid for a commission on deviantart 8 days ago. When I first sent the note, I got an acceptance note and a note confirming he received my paypal payment. It was a simple order. A sketchy chibi, unshaded.

I usually wouldn't be worried at this point, but on his commission post he commented 2 days ago that he'd "finished all his commissions".

I feel like 8 days is a little soon to note them and ask. People have lives and get busy and that's perfectly okay! I just want to know how many days should pass before I do.

This person isn't on tbt. :)

Thanks for the help!

It really depends on the commission (full body with background, chibi, etc) but since you commissioned a sketchy, unshaded chibi, it shouldn't take a whole lot of time unless they are extremely packed with commissions right now. There's also art block that might play a part in it too. But since he commented 2 days ago that he'd finish his commissions, I'd suggest to probably wait a few more days (maybe 3-5) since he's probably just trying to get done with other commissions before yours. If no results, then I guess you can note them about it and ask politely as the person may just be busy in general

Hope you get your commission soon!

thanks for your response! Do you think 2 weeks is a good enough period to wait?
I was in his first batch of commission orders, he has just started doing commissions. C:

He doesn't post a slot list, so I'm unsure how many people were ahead of me.

No problem! and I think 2 weeks might be good (do you mean two weeks since you commissioned them or two weeks since his announcement 2 days ago?) If their work pace is nice, you might have your commission done soon since he just started doing his commissions.

2 weeks since you paid probably, he's probably just forgotten because he said he'd finished them all he probably thinks he's already done it or something

Or you can just casually ask like 'by the way is it okay if I can get an estimation on when I can get my commission?' or something. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you ask politely.

I think 8 days is fine for a sketchy Chibi like that ^^ I commissioned Mdleine a few months ago, and although it took her 2 months and a half to finish, I checked up on it every 4 weeks and she was very polite and helpful so honestly it depends on the artist ^^
