How to keep a spot open for new villagers to move in?

I'm just curious, and I can't seem to validate this anywhere. I'm waiting for someone to cycle out a villager in their town and I'm currently at 9 villagers so there's one empty spot waiting and ready. Is there a specific way that will best keep this spot open?

I was just going to TT back so it keeps repeating the same day... does this work?

Your 10th villager spot will only be filled by you either inviting someone from another town/campsite, by someone's auto-void pool, or by streetpass. I suggest not wifi-ing with anyone that's recently voided anyone and turning off your streetpass

I had my streetpass on today because I wasn't expecting you to get ahold of them so soon hahaha
I walked straight through Manhattan so I feel like something bad is going to happen! Is there like a fail-safe way?

If you streetpassed someone today, it's likely that a plot will appear the next day. If you're holding out for a specific villager then TTing back to repeat the same day until you can pick up the villager would probably be a good idea. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Yup, this is what I do a lot, for many different things. Stay on the same day, until you invite the villager and they accept.
