How to obtain patches/collectibles?

I noticed that a lot of users have little pictures underneath their avatars with Festivale feathers, ACNL flowers, and cake. I got a bunch of them in a PM from Gyroid because my birthday is tomorrow, but I don't know how to accept them. Do I have to pick one? How do I get them even if it's not my birthday?

You can purchase collectibles via the Shop tab, then selecting collectibles! Besides that it's buying/trading them with other users. If you've been gifted collectibles, to show them off go to your inventory mark them active and unhide them.

about the birthday thing, i'm not sure. ?\_(ツ)_/? but you can get collectibles in the tbt marketplace by either buying them off of someone there for TBT, buying one in the bell tree forums' shop, or getting lucky enough in a giveaway where you get one.
