How to pick stuff up from Dragon Quest Builders 2

So I'm obviously a noob to this franchise.. I just bought this game and I'm playing through this tutorial. I was trying to place the torches I crafted in the spots the told me to, but because I wasn't used to the way you place objects down, I put 2 of them on the floor instead. Is there a way to pick them up again so I can put them in the proper places without making more? I can punch it.. but I'm assuming that destroys them rather than picks them up (since its health bar pops up lol). But I can't find a way to do it

PS: I have tried googling but cannot find anyone else asking such a stupid question lol! Therefore no answers have popped up..

To pick up items you need to have the gloves equipped. You can also move items as well this way.

Oh okay. I'm assuming that since this is the tutorial still, that I do not have access to the gloves yet? So I might as well just craft more and leave the torches on the floor?

Yeah you actually get them afterwards. You need to make the torches and the cypress stick. If it doesn't trigger the option to obtain them then you will need to smash them.

I really recommend you to play the first game, too!! It's not as deep as Builders 2, but it has its own story, characters, quests, worlds... it's a lot of fun! Especially if you like this type of gameplay.
