So after watching the trailer and Treehouse stream, this remains my biggest question: How are they going to handle the holidays in New Horizons?

First of all, are they even in? Or will they be smaller things like in New World? Or, since it was said you can unlock events with Nook Miles, are they something that you have to unlock with them? If this is the case, will players be able choose which holidays they want to celebrate in the game?

We know as much as you do, dude. No one else has this info. Everything is just speculation as of now.

I noticed a wreath on the door of the villager shown in the winter-y months... However there were no Christmas lights on the trees. I am sure that they won't completely discard holidays. One of my hopes was for the return of things like morning aerobics and other AC-oriented things, but that doesn't look too probable... BUT, surely they wouldn't be crazy enough to get rid of Toy Day/other holidays, especially the ones that have special characters. So I'm sure it'll be fine.

He's not asking for facts, it's a discussion to inspire speculation about the topic. :) No need for any hostility, we're all excited about the game right now!

My biggest concern and worry right now. Like I said in another post, my family isn't really able to celebrate holidays, and living in Florida its hard to get into the spirit of holidays because of the hot weather when its snowing in other parts of the world. Animal Crossing New Leaf has been my holiday substitute for the big ones like Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas since the game released. I don't think there's any real reason they won't come back; looking back on previous games the holiday NPC's just kind of... showed up. You didn't invite them, they were just there. I wouldn't mind unlocking them or having to build something specific in order to get them to show up, though I would hope they'd all be finished in time for their respective holidays or else it would be kind of disappointing that you can't celebrate something that comes once a year because you weren't able to craft something in time or didn't have enough materials. I am so happy they showed the seasons though, and some rain. Since the main character was building a snowman in part of the trailer, I think it means there will probably be holiday celebrations.

As someone who lives on a non deserted island. . .we celebrate holidays. I just wonder how it'll be handled in the new game in regard to NPCs of course. Maybe Nook sells them tickets to the island too.

This was something I wasn’t sure on either - we know we get different seasons that I think look really well realised so I feel like holidays should return but they’ll probably be different than in previous games. I’m interested to find out tbh!

I have a feeling that the trailer only covered the building aspects of the game (with Nook being primarily in charge of that). However, Isabelle wasn't mentioned, or any kind of "town hall" or specific PWP permanent buildings (I'm surprised she wasn't mentioned). Holidays were always a crucial part to the AC game, whether they be reflecting real holidays or made up holidays, so I don't think we will be missing them entirely. It's likely Isabelle will reprise some sort of role to be in charge of holidays, we just haven't seen her role in the game yet.

Isabelle is confirmed. There is a interview with the devs on IGN :).

I am pretty sure there are holidays. It was always a big part of AC and I am pretty sure the devs know that fans love the festivals. I think there are more than ever actually. We have all the seasons even if we are on an island.

Plus the game was in an very early stage. I am confident that there is some sort of town hall and shops. So I don't worry much about festivals... they will be there :)

Yeah I read that, I just meant what was shown in the trailer and the gameplay. I have no doubt she'll appear, just a matter of when/how early (eg. if we have to unlock her after paying loans to nook lol) and what her role is pertaining to holidays like previous games ^^

*like New Leaf. She isn't in any of the mainline games before that, and even if New Leaf she's not that important when it comes to holidays. Sure, she does the cookie-cutter ones, where there's a stand and you get some item, but you can't even talk to her on actual holidays, IIRC.

Plus, I just generally doubt she'll be taking care of holidays if she's not in the game from the beginning. Using the analogy the devs used, you might not have a convenience store in the mountains, but you probably do celebrate holidays. If you think about it like that, we'll probably get some starter holidays, and then have to unlock the bigger events.

Oops yeah like in New Leaf. Mistype.

Her appearance in New Leaf didn't seem that significant to me anyways and I did wish she had a bigger role rather than just sitting behind the desk and standing at the plaza once in a while. In the treehouse gameplay we saw Tommy (Timmy?) walking around outside. I don't know if that's just a starting animation, but it would be nice to see NPCs actually walking around town and enjoying events rather than staying in buildings or standing around. If Isabelle does reprise her role as some kinda town hall representative, I just hope that she does more than just stand around during holidays. And if she doesn't reprise that role, NPCs should still take part in holidays in some way :>

Where are the shops? Where is K.k. slider? Wheres the cozy cafe in the museum? Do we have a museum? What about events? There is no townhall right, so what about events? So many questions and they only showed us an empty island😭

I'm super glad they implemented a different seasonal calendar for the southern hemisphere, it was always kinda wack rolling snowmen in-game while it was 40 degrees outside in the middle of summer. However I'm kinda curious as to how they holidays and seasonal events will work, since the seasons are flipped. Will bug tourneys be June-Aug in the north but Dec-Feb in the south? How will they readjust the sakura blossom/aurora dates, since it would be different based on the seasons. The only thing I'm sure would change is the bug/fish appearance periods, but there's probably a few other aspects they'd have to alter.

With that, I wonder if they'll just introduce hemisphere neutral holidays, or have holidays exclusive to each hemisphere.

The trailer was only a brief first look and I think to mostly show off the crafting capabilities over anything else.

I wasn't being hostile, sorry if it came out that way.

I really hope that there are holidays! Given it has always been their selling point that it is a game that goes through the seasons with you, you would have thought that they would be in there. I don't see why they wouldn't. It would awesome if they added more to the holidays like having big festivals, town events with your villagers, house parties where you could host a (for example) Christmas party in your house and your villagers would come. With the new ability to craft things, there will probably be some festive things you can make once a year when the holidays come around (eg: at Christmas you can make a wreath or house lights) HOUSE LIGHT! How cool would it be if you could make or buy some lights to put on the outside of your house every Christmas! That would be cool. Light festivals. Now I'm just getting carried away. I'll stop now :)

I just want my Summer Christmas, lol. I hope the holidays are how they usually are and maybe a special day sprinkled in somewhere such as the 'holidays' from Wild World.

I hope they handle them somewhat like new leaf to be honest only just please don’t shut everything down...it’s annoying
