Just a public service announcement here: I am going to discuss HUGE details revealed from data-mining Animal Crossing New Horizons. Now, data-mining doesn’t 100% mean these features will be introduced to the game but they could definitely be considered spoilers. So if you don’t want to know anything that hasn’t been officially revealed by Nintendo, you may want to click away now.

Firstly, I want to give a big shout out to Ninji on Twitter who has provided all these data-mining details.

There’s a lot to cover here so let’s start with a character who I adore and is currently sadly missing from New Horizons….. Redd!

For those who don’t know Redd, he is a shady fox who ran a black market stall selling art. But the caveat here was that all but one item of art was fake. If you managed to correctly identify an original piece, you could donate it to Blathers to display in the museum.

So have you ever wondered what the secret beach on the north shore of your island is for? Clearly it’s intentional as everyone has one. Well, it seems like Crazy Redd may have a ship which will dock at this secret beach. I find it hard to imagine Redd on a ship but I like the idea of him sneaking onto the island rather than advertising his counterfeit goods in the middle of the plaza. Either way, it seems like the fake art mechanic is coming back to Animal Crossing so get your magnifying glasses ready for a closer inspection!

So if art is returning, would we be able to donate it to the museum? There is currently no section designated for it. Which brings us to the next part of the datamine; the museum upgrades. I think most people know about the first museum upgrade which evolves the tent to a beautiful, brick building. However there seems to be three more expansions to the museum. The first will house art as hinted at earlier. The next upgrades could be for two standalone buildings; a museum shop and a museum cafe.

I think announcing a cafe is music to the ears of fellow Brewster lovers. Brewster is a reserved yet friendly pigeon who usually manages his cafe called The Roost. He is known for his love of coffee and gyroids.

Speaking of which, gyroids are another item which seems to be sorely missing from New Horizons. I keep expecting to dig some up after a rainy day but I’m always disappointed. Worry not, it appears that gyroids will be incorporated into the new museum cafe.

Next up, if you’re an avid gardener or landscaper you will be pleased to know bushes might be introduced. There are currently 6 bushes listed including azalea, hibiscus, holly, hydrangea, camellia and osmathus (also known as olive). The exact bush types have changed between the 1.0 and 1.4 update so they may not be the final choices but I think it’s safe to assume this important feature may make a return.

Continuing with the plant theme, it seems like Animal Crossing is going to introduce a brand new update. And that is growing vegetables! We are currently able to grow fruit trees. There are also turnips in game but they are primarily for selling. But it seems like tomatoes, wheat, sugar cane, potatoes, carrots and pumpkin could all be a new activity that you will need to grow and pick. As someone who loves games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, I think this will be a fantastic new feature that I can not wait to try.

The introduction of vegetables also leads to the possibility of new DIY recipes and dare I say it…. Crafting food! This is also backed up by a ‘get_recipe_cooking’ report in the code which supports this theory so get your oven gloves ready folks, it’s time for a Great Animal Crossing Bake Off.

The next feature hinted at in the data mine is diving. In the 1.0 update, there was a file named “seafood” for the critterpedia page. It is supposedly meant to contain 33 entries including the currently ingame manila clam. Diving will allow you to obtain fish and seaweed within this category. After mentioning implementing cooking, I wonder whether fish and seafood will also become ingredients to certain recipes.

Finally, one last feature which I don’t think will come as a surprise to anyone is a third upgrade to Nook’s Cranny. Once Timmy and Tommy were brave enough to leave Tom Nook at the Resident Services and start their own business trading goods, they soon built a wooden shed as their store. After a while, their humble shed is promoted to a newer fully fledged shop with window displays and a proper roof. There is most likely one more upgrade to their store but what it will look like and what it will contain is still a mystery.

Wow that was a lot of new information right? This is some huge news if all these features are going to be included in the game. What new mechanic are you looking forward to the most? And is there anything you would like to see introduced which hasn’t been discovered in the data mine?

like i said in the thread that was posted last night, i take datamines with a grain of salt as i don’t want to get my hopes up. i do believe the art gallery and the roost datamines are the most likely to be accurate as there has been villager dialogue where they’ve mentioned both brewster and an art gallery in the museum that doesn’t currently exist. i can definitely imagine redd pulling up to the secret beach in a boat; seems like something he would do.

having diving make a comeback would be great and i hope that would reintroduce pascal at some point as he’s one of my favourite npcs. bushes also seems likely and might even be added with the earth day update coming this week and maybe leif will be bringing some vegetables with him? that would be new but the thought of being able to grow a vegetable garden sounds great to me :3

I'm excited for these updates, but not so excited to hear that we so many standalone buildings. It'll be hard to place all of them. Specially a "museum shop"??? Shouldn't that be in the museum?

Ah sorry Faiiry if this is old news, I only saw this information a few hours ago and took that entire time to creating a video which is why I didn't post details immediately.

I agree that data mining should always be interpreted as "possible new features" and not guaranteed.

Ah Pascal coming back with diving would be amazing!

Good point Sir Badger - now I have to think about 2 new possible locations for a shop and cafe!

Yeah I have to agree I don't really like adding a lot of stand-alone buildings as the game progresses. I'm not done terraforming and I still have room to squeeze the potential cafe and museum shop in near my museum, but I'm not particularly happy that they may add even more stand-alone buildings down the line once I am satisfied with the way things look. Literally nobody cares if a building is larger on the inside than it appears on the outside (all of them already are), so there's no reason to not have the musuem shop at least be a part of the actual museum.

Good point. I am totally happy with the shop being incorporated into the museum. The cafe on the other hand would be nice to have as a stand alone as I would like to place outdoor cafe furniture around it :)

Yeah, the Café I wouldn't mind so much, but the stand alone shop would grind my gears. I do hope it's optional, though. I don't want all these buildings to change my town's aesthetic and purpose. It's not meant to be a city a la CF.

I want as many stand alone buildings as possible, that being said museum shop should be in the museum, at least if it's true we can just put it next to the museum, could also be that the museum building itself just gets two entrances the exterior might change like nooks cranny hm?
Oh but that being said, I don't believe rumors / datamines from twitter whatsoever, but it's fun to theorize.

I wouldn't be too into the farming/cooking thing but I wonder if it's actually data meant for harvest festival/thanksgiving. I could see those items before used to turn in for fall furniture.

I do hope there are more standalone buildings, to be honest, because my Island feels really empty at the moment.
But then I'm also deliberately holding off doing any major revamps because of the updates that they've announced - I was kind of expecting them to introduce more and more stuff over time and I see some people with completed Islands after just a month of playing and sometimes wonder why they're in such a hurry - but to each their own.

I think diving and swimming will HAVE to be a thing.
This being an Island and all, I just don't see it not being introduced later on - it would be so weird especially since you could do it in New Leaf and that wasn't even located on an island.

This just fills me with so much delight my heart can hardly stand it. I am so excited for this. One thing I am curious about though, regarding the 'standalone museum buildings' do you guys think that will mean attached to the museum but with a separate entrance? Or separate buildings entirely that we can place anywhere on our island? I was kind of wanting to put the eventual cafe in a certain spot, that's why I'm asking.

oooo crops would be SO cool to have omg...and tbh i rly like the concept of there being more standalone buildings even if it means changing the layout of my island. its just more stuff to do and i really enjoy the idea of constantly changing where things are cause it makes it feel a little less...static? i guess? ik its not a definite update its just a datamine but still :,)

As was to be expected.
Though I'd strongly advice Nintendo NOT to turn this into another copy of Minecraft..........

That's what bothers me too. I mean, I don't mind having The Roost as a standalone building, as it was one already in New Leaf and I would probably find a good spot for it, but the museum shop as such is just pointless. Wouldn't mind it if it was the observatory, because that one at least would be really cool, but the shop? Pretty boring, can be added as an extra floor for the actual museum, no need to make it that special.

Speaking of standalone buildings: I wonder how many we may get in other updates? I could imagine that maybe the Able Sister's getting an upgrade with a section for Kicks if they want to give that guy his own shop (section), Leaf could be together with Timmy and Tommy again. The Dream Suite (if that one gets a comeback, which I really REALLY hope it gets) could become either a standalone building or Luna gets her own island like Harvey has. Otherwise, the police station may become another standalone building.

if these are true, then i'm super, super excited for all of them. especially the museum cafe and
bushes

As someone who usually has ample space on my island, I'm actually really excited to have more buildings to place around, but I can sympathize with you guys who don't have as much open space to work with. It may be kind of challenging having to move things around and find the room.

The way that the garden store is written sounds like it might be like Kicks instead of a building. More like a traveling store.
