I want to preface this by saying that the thought of this happening is a bit silly and this is just for the sake of discussion.

Anyway, Microsoft and Nintendo have been getting along fairly well recently and there are talks of them starting a proper partnership, bringing Xbox Live to Switch and whatnot.

What Nintendo could do to strengthen this is bring some of their titles over to Xbox. It seems unfathomable they'd go bringing their big star and mascot Mario over, but perhaps a different franchise could be brought over to Xbox... such as Animal Crossing.

It would still be a Nintendo exclusive to begin with, but Xbox would get a port approximately one year down the line. There would only be minor changes such as adding achievements, which would be no different from Phineas' badges. There would be some minor graphical improvements for all Xbox systems, and on the Xbox One X it would run in 4K.

All online multiplayer aspects would be cross-platform, though a Microsoft account would be required and Gamertags would be used. Online multiplayer between Switch users only would still be possible without signing in to Xbox Live.

Certain items (the ones that were in fortune cookies in New Leaf) could be interesting... seeing if they would make it to Xbox just fine. If so, additional items may be added for the Xbox release and in an update to the Switch version to implement some stuff from Microsoft's intellectual properties as items.

To be completely honest if Nintendo started putting games on other systems I wouldn't buy Nintendo consoles anymore

Animal Crossing is not going to be released on Xbox, no matter what deal they make. Maybe some older titles, but nothing that's coming out soon. Nintendo has no reason to unless a game isn't selling well or has stopped selling. Microsoft doesn't really do console exclusives anymore; nearly everything they release comes out on PC. For them, there's no reason not to extend some of their titles elsewhere. Where in Nintendo's case, everything they make is exclusive to them outside of the NVIDIA Shield releases in China (but that has more to do with Nintendo and NVIDIA's partnership).

Would anybody with a personality that prefers Xbox even buy a game like this?

I expected a bunch of replies screaming about how it would never happen due to a lack of understanding the word "hypothetical".

I would just love to see Animal Crossing on a console with a legit online service and achievements. Wouldn't even have to necessarily be the Xbox, could just be a better NSO infrastructure.

I'd be interested in Switch having achievements/trophies like PS4 and Xbox. Maybe they'll call them badges this time.

What someone else said, true Xbox gamers don't play games like ACNL. They play games like Halo, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Fallout, ect... Fighty shootery games.

Also I don't like the idea of seeing a Nintendo exclusive like ACNL on another platform. It feels weird. Other games like their indie games, that's fine. But ACNL? Nah.

I could never see a Nintendo game on a non-Nintendo console, but I'd honestly wish Nintendo would partner with Sony instead because I could see K.K. Slider meet Parappa the Rapper. :D
