I thought Serena was in this game so I built a fountain. After it was built, I tried tossing my axe into it but it didn't work. It was then did I research to find out that she is only in City Folk. What a waste of money and time! I guess I will have to demolish it and replant all of the trees that got cut down in the process. Anyway, if that's not how you get a golden axe in this game, how on earth do you do it?

It takes a bit of time but you can demolish it for free rather than for 10% of the build price if you move in a new character on the top of it (so I heard, never tried it myself) but it involves making a new character.
And golden axe is something like buying 50 fertilisers from the garden shop, but again I'd have to search for it

yep, that was almost right, golden SHOVEL is buying 50 fertilizers from the biggest store upgrade. To get the golden axe you have to buy 50 saplings from the garden shop.

I agree, but some people only think of games as a "Win or Lose" situation so its a competition to get everything as fast as possible. I guess once one gets everything in the game they are done and stop playing.

I am still confused as to see why it's a "waste" ... He has the fountain. and, no one ever said you get the axe from the fountain in this game. So it wasn't for nothing...
The fountain is a mere 99,800. That's nothing. I could see if it was 500k-1,000,000.
EDIT: and as I said before, every town needs a fountain. Now you won't need one down the road

I bought it in order to have a nice rose area and something pretty by my house. Plus it goes nicely with the feel of my town so.. it's not a big waste of money. They wanted to make stuff harder to get, not grab and go like in City Folk.

Maybe you should've done some research instead of going by hearsay. I like my fountain. I would like it more if Reese wasn't where she was and my fountain was there instead, but I still love it. Nice and relaxing. Especially with 11 PM music

I only have one fountain, but now I feel like a hobo compared to your fancy double fountains. >.>
As for your fountain problem, I would keep the fountain if you haven't already demolished it. I put a bench and a lamppost next to mine and it looks pretty cute. It has a nice park look to it.
I already demolished it, I will just build a police station there instead. That is, when I have the option to build one of course. I am not aiming to make my town look pretty at all. All of the public works projects I decide to build are for my own personal gain or affairs. I built a cut-out standee only so I can design... well... designs for them. I built a bench because I just wanted to. I built a lighthouse near the beach because I thought it would look fitting and it reminds me of the first game. I built a bridge because my layout put a bridge in one of the most inconvenient places on earth. I built a campsite only so I can get certain characters to move in my town (even though I have no problem with any of the current ones that are living in my town). I set a night owl ordinance to my town just so I can go to the island at night and sell the fish, bugs, and seafood. I also did that so I do things late at night if I don't have time to play during the day.

Anyway, the fountain is not relevant to me. I'm not saying that I won't build public works projects that don't serve any purpose, but I feel that I should get all of the ones that serve a purpose first. For example, I just built my caf? and paid it off too.

I never said that, I just thought since every single character from City Folk has returned in this game that she would be in this game too. Also, I never knew that it was hard to get her to give you a silver/golden axe.

I would like to inform you that I am planning to make a communist and totalitarian town where I own all of the money and I rule everything. Of course I am going to build stuff only for my personal gain. Also, I just thought the way get a golden axe is via a fountain since it was in City Folk. If it actually had a purpose to it then I would have kept it, but I feel that it is wasting space in my town that I can use for something the has a purpose to it. (Like a police station)
