I Just Realised Something Terrible

i think you'll still be able to chat wiith an in-game keyboard. they said app was releasing "soon after" the release date of NH, and there's no way they wouldn't let us talk in game until then, right?

True, true.

Would have been nice if voice chat and texting was an in-game feature but its a non issue for me. I think I will just create a discord server and invite a bunch of players on to it to start a massive multiplayer hub, where you can connect and basically ask anyone to join your island or join theirs.

I'd join.

I'm also hoping for the return of the in-game keyboard so we can chat there BUT... And I've honestly thought long about this and I feel like the chatting through the app will be one of those things that while originally you think won't work will end up being better than an actual in game chat. And I feel that you're more likely to chat faster than you do in AC, generally. Now, I do hope they keep an alternative for those than don't like that/don't have phones or just don't have smartphones or apps in general. Additionally, I'd hope for a chat log, considering you can have even more people in chat.

Just have the chat in-game. Both voice and text.

i don't think voice chat should be in game because of specifically children that'll play this game. it's different to have voice chat on an app that's outside of the game because the people who have a phone or device to use the app on are usually old enough to actually be the age the ToS says can use voice chat, but of course things are changing and kids are getting devices like that much earlier. it'll at least be a tiny obstacle. it's easier to say more inappropriate things over voice chat than text because you can't really keep a log of it like text unless all voice chats are recorded, which would be really terrible in my opinion. text chat has a limited number of characters you can use per message (not confirmed), so if you're there for trading, you're there for trading with no extraneous conversation.

i realize that things like this limit communication in a way, but if you're on a stranger's island i feel like the less communication there is the better. things like discord and such are better used among friends compared to nintendo's app, and i think many of us have come to that conclusion; when i play with family i'll probably just call them or something like that.

I'm fairly certain you will be able to chat both via the ingame keyboard and the app. It would make no sense to allow you to type ingame for some things, but not for other things.

Especially since not everyone has the luxury of owning a smartphone, for various reasons.

John Wick does that's for sure.

But I don't want to use an app for chatting in-game. Nintendo needs to stop trying to push this stuff. Just have the chat in-game. Both voice and text.

I'm not a technophobe.
I just object to that stuff being in AC, where I go to escape the real world where I'm constantly on a mobile. :)

Just wanted to confirm to anyone who was worried (like me) that typing would be app-only, pretty sure in-game typing has now been confirmed via PAX East footage!
