I need help using the amiibo

I started with two campers. I got one camper from an island. I was given three plots to set up and the island camper moved inot one, while the other two were random. I built the campsite and invited the camper from there. I then bought a plot of land and set up another spot. At no time has the amiibo function been available. The amiibo do work on the island where they can be used, but not as an option at the terminal. Am I missing something?

Have you asked Tom Nook “what should I do?”
This should prompt him to introduce the amiibo function, it’s usually available after the first camper moves in and there’s an empty place for one.

Ah, the campsite villager is eager to move but still in the tent. Possibly he will move in when the new day begins. I guess I was just jumping the gun there.

Yeah, this unlocked for me today as my first camp visitor moved in to his house.
