I want to live in the past

i feel you, and you definitely aren’t crazy for feeling this way. however, i personally don’t want to live in the past — i wish i could go back and change things from my personal past, but i wouldn’t want to live in it permanently. i miss my good ol’ days of disney, teletoon and treehouse shows, toys, easier workloads at school and less responsibilities, playing online games such as moshi monsters, girlgogames, etc, but i think i’d prefer to just keep moving forward. 😅

You said you want to go to the future, so I have to ask. If our bodies synchronized age-wise with whichever time we went to, would you be fine with getting older automatically in that case? Dumb question I know, but I had to ask.
Well it could be like Samurai Jack where the timeline doesn't take him being in the future into account. Therefore he doesn't age because he technically doesn't exist/is out of the timeline's spectrum.

Or you'd be like Dorian Gray and just turn to dust the moment the traveling completes.

No waaaaaay. The internet ****ing sucked even in 2008, imagine trying to binge a show while only being able to watch one episode every 52 minutes. Urgh.

I just feel the way because that's my childhood and I miss having next to no responsibilities.

90s fashion yeah, but technology should at least be at Nintendo DS level.

i don't feel the same at all. i love the 90s aesthetic for sure, i'm big into older PCs, retro games, the music, the fashion etc. everything about the 90's is pretty cool. but i am very, very comfortable living in the time i'm in now simply because of how society has come along with LGBT acceptance.

I still have an old crtv with cds of Dart Punk and such. Love it.

We are just starting to see full uncut dvd releases of old stuff I would watch back then, like Monster Rancher. Of course they would have the old commercials and network bumpers. There are compilations of those on youtube.

the late 90s/early 00s were alright, but i wouldn't want to go back. endulging in nostalgia is fine, and i do it too, but i don't really think things were better back then. it's easy to look back and only catch sight of the good things. back then, people were also fawning over decades past.
you think fondly of burned cds, but back when i was burning cds, people were talking about how it'd be the end of music and how it (and napster/kazaa/etc) was killing the entire industry, and how it removed the ~magic~ of listening to music. just like how some people are talking about streaming nowadays. and remember, in two decades, people will also reminisce about the good ol' days of spotify we're living in right now.

That might be true, but I am talking about myself here, and I know even in two decades I will still reminisce about the 90s/00s. For me it probably has to do with a lot of positive memories. I don’t make too many positive memories these days unfortunately.

I was tasked with converting old vhs tapes into digital files for family videos last year. Some of the tapes I found out also had tv recordings mixed in where I assume someone either didn't care or know they were taping over family stuff. It ranged from early 2000s and 90s. Some of the commercials back then were wild.

I think I had more fun watching the old tv shows and commercials more than I did seeing my family from 20+ years ago lol.

If I'm being honest, I don't like this generation and I wish I wasn't born in the late 2000's. I hardly understand slang and technology. I think I would've preferred the 80's or 90's, plus it would've been cool to be around during the N64 era.
Suppose my opinion has changed a tad bit over time. My dad told me that his era wasn't that great (even though the only thing I can think of is the Québec ice storm of '98 he went though.) And besides, I don't know how I can live without the internet, the Switch era, and LGBTQ+ acceptance.

Nostalgia will always cloud how "good" things actually were during any given time. I did love the 90's and early 2000's...but I feel like going back there now would be more bittersweet than I would like to imagine. - I think the cool thing about living in the present time...is having all of the old stuff at our disposal while still having the new conveniences. And I mean, sure...there is a lot about 2022 that is utter dogbutt. Social media and misinformation being chief among them. Terrible politics. The state of the climate. Corporate greed. All the bad things. But...when it comes to nostalgia and all of those things that I loved about a given era...I can still enjoy those now. I don't really feel like I need to go back in time to appreciate them again.

The biggest positive to being able to return to a period like the 90's, would be the lack of instant communication. Aside from very early cell phones and the birth of the internet, you still had to wait to see people...and that always made things more special. People treated each other better. Bonds were much stronger. You didn't have access to billions of people's lives. You lived more simply...beneath your means.

Well, you certainly aren't alone! Anxiety and depression rates in the Westernised parts of the world are at an all-time high. Much of this is attributed to the fast past, careerist, materialistic, individualised, digitalised culture we live in. That is not to say that it is all bad or inherently bad, but it is new and evolving very rapidly (has been for a while now- we are currently exhibiting the fourth industrial revolution). At all points in history when there has been a revolution, aka, rapid change, mental health has generally been pretty poor. Know that your feelings are perfectly valid, but also know that every point in history has had its issues. Reliving the past would be great, we would know what was going to happen and feel comfortable in a setting we are fully acquainted with. No one has had that luxury, many people always have and always will long for a different time. Best I can offer is just to say, be true to yourself!
