i wish we could change our villager’s home exteriors. so, so badly.

imagine if there was an option, much like the one we have for our own player’s homes, where we could customize our beloved villager’s house exteriors?
it would include all the individual existing options for villager home exteriors, except we could choose whatever combination of them for any villager.

this would change so much for me, and i’m sure for you guys too (unless you aren’t persnickety about this type of thing.)

for example: stitches, raddle, and judy. three babies who i will never allow to leave, despite their home exteriors not fitting my island’s traditional japanese village theme whatsoever.

it would bring me so much joy and satisfaction if i could give them custom exteriors that i feel still fit their personalities, but that also blend seamlessly with my island’s theme.

i’m sure many of you have also thought of this. i can’t help but cringe when i see how much some of my favorite villager’s homes clash with the island design i’m going for, and i often fantasize about the above concept being made reality. i recall there being some kind of glitch where you can swap villager home exteriors but i don’t know if it’s still a thing and, either way, i probably don’t have the skills nor patience to pull it off.

i feel this as well! although i’m pretty much the opposite, i find that usually their house interiors are super cute because they match their personalities and give them a personal flair (and also you cant see them from the outside of course, so no worry about clashing aesthetics); it’s the exteriors that i really want to change. although being able to add a custom piece of furniture here and there would be so nice. and yeah, it would be cool to be able to give them gifts other than fruit too :/

Mainly their exteriors though. I don’t like overly bright exteriors or exteriors that are very light in colors (aqua, white, yellow, etc). I tend to picky my villagers based on their look but also their exteriors. That seems to match my island better.

i would LOVE to be able to change their exteriors! my first villagers...2 of them had black houses, 3 of them had tropical and the ones that moved in after that were all contemporary. none of them really fit together and i would love to be able to customize them so i wouldnt keep having to boot folks out because their houses color scheme stinks. the first island that i had Rockets house was all pink! @_@

I definitely agree. There's characters I've wanted to keep but their outdoor aesthetic didn't flow with my island. I wanted to invite Tiffany to live on my island but Coco's house blended better so I added another normal. Even if they gave us a few colour options for each house I'd take it. I'm very picky and I noticed the villagers I don't like tend to have amazing house exteriors. Though I'd feel like the ultimate Karen in dictating to my neighbours what they can wear and how their homes should look like lol.

I would love to be able to change the exterior and interior of my villagers houses. Most of them don’t bother me because I like a lot of them. Some like Hopper and Joey I don’t like the exterior of their house at all. Most of the interiors are great. Then there is cube who I was so excited to see on a mystery island. When I got to visit I was sure his house was wrong since it didn’t have the ice furniture like the rest of the penguins houses had. I really want to change it but won’t kick him out because of it.

yesss i absolutely love coco’s house exterior (and her), i also have considered kicking villagers who i otherwise love just bc their exteriors were so tacky which really sucks although according to another commenter, the most recent datamine revealed our dreams might come true?! so it might not be too wishful but of course we can’t get our hopes up yet

Like, maybe as a reward for reaching maximum friendship, villagers would occasionally be like "Hey, does my interior/exterior seem stale to you?" and if you said "Yah" they'd be like "Oh! Well, do you have any ideas how to make it better?" kind of like with catchphrases. I mean, I doubt Nintendo would ever do it, but I can dream, lol.

But I totally agree, I definitely have villagers I'd love to move-in, but I'm super particular about having matching neighborhoods and houses that go with each other/themed areas. And some villagers I just can't find a place for. Or else, I only want them if I have another villager to match them and put their houses together.

And I love some villagers, and even their house exteriors, but HATE their interiors. Like Paula. Super cute villager. Love the exterior, would even steal it for my own house if it was a possibility (I feel the same way about Ursala's, lol). But the interior? What the heck? Why does it look like a peppy villager's house? I can't even imagine her childhood room looking like that!

See, I have the opposite issue, lol. Like, I LOVE Blanche, but I have NO idea where her house would go, because I don't particularly want a Japanese area on my island. I mean, nothing against it. I LOVE visiting nice Japanese towns! But I just feel like, if I'm going Japanese, I'd wanna go FULL Japanese or not Japanese at all, and it's not high on my list of themes I wanna try, lol.

i honestly like it the way it is. since villager houses have themes, it gets me to consider villagers id never consider before. for example, yesterday i fell in love w croque. i didnt even know he existed ! but he has a japanese-style exterior, so i decided to invite him. if we were able to customize whoevers house, i dont think i ever would have found him. though i do suppose i could simply choose to not customize the exterior if that mechanic was introduced to the game. just a thought !

All of this, right down to Blanche, who I had to let go a couple of weeks ago as her house just couldn't fit. Shame, cos I really liked her.

So, selfishly, I would be gutted if we could suddenly just change the exterior haha, cos I've let a couple go that I would've kept had it not been for their houses! I would be interested in doing the interior though. I often redesign their houses on Harv's island anyway, so I would enjoy doing that. Sadly, I doubt it will be possible.

I guess in some way, yeah I agree but I'd like subtle changes. Like the shape of the house and roof stay the same but you can change color and textures.

Like I wouldn't want the same customization for the house that we get as a player. It feels unnatural or forced.. (even though 90% of our actions is forced, lol)

Being able to change the exterior of their houses would be great, it’d help to theme islands better but I don’t mind not being able to. Something I really wish I could do is make my villager Rod’s house his actually house. He was my first villager, so he’s stuck with the bland starter house interior and I can’t change it to what his actual house would be if he wasn‘t a starter villager. I just can’t bring myself to kick him off and add him back as an amiibo, I feel like (even though this is kinda stupid) that we wouldn’t have our same friendship or memories we’ve had.
