When Father's Day happened and we got no letter I was a little surprised.

Although Dad letters were really rare in older games we still got them (I think it was the only way to get a red carnation in City Folk and New Leaf). It really stuck out when we got Father's Day stuff but no letters from Dad. I think they should make a Fatherly Series of furniture to match the Motherly Series which imo is some of the best new furniture next to Antique.

justice for dad!

it would be nice if, at the beginning of the game, there was a villager dialogue prompt that set your parental preference or something. (similarly to how talking to a WW villager was what set your birthday.) like, one of your starters could ask, "hey, y/n, are you close with your parents?" and you could've had the option of, "i'm close with my mom," "i'm close with my dad," or "i'm close with both my parents!" and that would determine who sent you the majority of your letters (with the other only writing on their respective holiday and your birthday), while the latter answer makes them alternate every month.

I agree! It would be really cool if they did that.

I am going to try and stay neutral about this. I would say that there are a lot more one parent families around and the majority of care goes to the mum.

I will say that yes, I am a single parent family but I had the most amazing dad ❤️

I get that but some people are raised by single fathers! It would be cool if, like daringed said, you could say which parent you like best which is kinda similar to a prompt in the Gamecube Animal Crossing when Tortimer asks who you respect most.

Absolutely true, being a single parent is tough whether a mum or dad. There should be a way to adapt to your personal circumstances 💜

I never even gave much thought to this. In my family, it’s usually my mom calling in for checkups, sending postcards, buying the Christmas presents, etc. I love my dad and am very close with him, but mom is always doing these things. It’s nice to add preferences to everyone whose situation is different though.

What about those who have a very strained relationship with both of them I wonder 🙊I also have a friend who lost their mom a year ago and they get extremely sad everytime they get a letter.
Just random thoughts about the matter ☺️
Personally I have a strained relationship with both my parents but I never associated the in game mom with my real mom, so I didbt mind
That being said I agree, dad needs some representation as well!

They could just have you input a name of "someone close" to cover every eventuality. Like the pop up auto-completes to say Mom, but you can type in, Dad, Grandma or Susan and get letters signed from them instead.

Actually now I'm like this could be great for 2nd characters moving to a new town, it can autocomplete the name of your highest friendship villager from the previous town.

Probably the same reason April Fools was overlooked this time around. And many other holidays from past games. It does suck that they took so much charm out of the game and didn't substitute it with something else.

Doesn't our dad send us a letter in June for Father's day? Also this year they released the Father's Day aprons which I was fond of but others had mixed reactions to the aprons.

Not in New Horizons but in other games yeah

I honestly forgot all about Dad! ( sorry in game Dad ) It would definitely be nice to hear from him every now and then, even if Moms are usually the ones who remember to write and send presents. Dad where ya at? ( maybe Mom kicked him out the house, lol )

i mean, i'm not particularly close with either of my parents, but i don't and never have associated my in-game parents with my real ones. they're the parents of my character (who, to be fair, is never modeled after me anyway) not me. i just think it's a little shortsighted for the game to put so much emphasis on the mother to the point of even taking out the father's day letter in NH. it's not like there aren't people with single dads or two dads or just crappy moms. dads can be just as, if not more, affectionate and caring than mothers. feels like a bit of a kick in the face to all of the ones that are for nintendo to act like only a mom would remember to write to you and send you gifts.
