I think we all agree it's time for more skin tones in animal crossing- especially after their inclusions in the recent spinoffs. However, I love how in acnl your appearance is chosen based on how you answer Rover's questions. Also, I don't want every hairstyle and color available when you first start! I much prefer trying out new hairstyles at Shampoodle. Does anyone have any good ideas about finding a balance between better customization and the classic way it's been done in past games?

I think it could be similarISH to pokemon. I think rover could present us with a set of 8 pictures, all drawn in a crude style (like small childs) but the only real discernable features could be the skin tone, and the nose of course which is the same for everyone. it might be a little stilted, but maybe he could say something like, oh I have this arty friend I've been trying to impress (presumably blanca) ... which one of these would you say looks most like you? and then you pick one.

Then the normal series of face questions happens, and only skin colour is affected.

I agree I don't like being able to pick everything at the get go! the only thing we need to be able to choose is skin tone.

I think tanning could remain to a degree as well (maybe only a 2 degree increase in tan, never from stage 1 all the way to 7 like it is now). Alternatively to a tan, they could introduce freckles as a sign of summer either. In the summer my skin is so much nicer and radiant than in winter, I like how the game has a hint of this too - but I think the current tanning system is just too much, only a little increase should happen, just like real life.

One thing I was thinking of since people still like talking to Rover for the customization; we could have thought bubbles of when he's talking to us. So, when we're seeing the option, it'll have a thought bubble preview of what the characteristic will look like.

I'm also in agreement of choosing colors from the start, again, this could be phrases as Rover questions with previews. (Not seeing what the slider means at Shampoodle's is a royal pain sometimes since there's a lot of colors!) Having pink hair forever in Wild World was so troublesome, that's honestly the game that needed it most haha. This is similar to Warrior's idea in concept, but this is how it first came to mind for me!

I don't know how I'd feel about a nose and eyebrow change, they're so simple it hasn't ever bothered me.

I hope they get rid of the Rover conversation and just let us make a character like in HHD. I HATE the ugly hairstyles you'll have -most of the time- starting the game until you have shampoodle.

change the nose or ear will make everyone happy

I disagree, nose should stay the same. It's too iconic in my opinion

I think we should be able to have chubby characters, we've got some chubby villagers, why not humans?

I would like to see more mouth options for sure, and definitely a diverse selection of skin tones

That's a pretty good idea. I guess something like this would be the best solution.

I don't want to get rid off Rover and his questions. I mean, sure, you may start with a character
who has the wrong hairstyle and/or eye color. But that's why the game wants you to work on your
town/game, so that you make yourself goals by unlock the things you need for your character
customization such as Shampoodle for example. And I think that they can just extend Rover's
questions in a way that you can choose skin color, maybe even an "ok" hairstyle and eye color
with which you can work till you get Shampoodle and everything else.

I wouldn't mind a combo. The ugly conversation and then "well what do you really look like" as he gives you a mirror.

more male hairstyles. please. we all use the same swoopy one

Same.
