Throughout all of Animal Crossing history, changing clothes is one way to customize a character. Back in the Gamecube version, only the shirt can be changed. However, the pattern applies to the hat and other sides of the shirt as well. In Wild World, you can change headwear and facewear, but shirts are the only ones of the body that can be changed. In City Folk, patterns on shirts aren't clustered onto all four sides. Finally, in New Leaf, more than just shirts can be changed.

However, New Leaf isn't even the best one. I'm feeling that clothes need more than just what New Leaf has. Sure thing that the pirate coat and raincoat look kinda masculine, but in New Leaf, they are dresses. Boys shouldn't be wearing dresses (maybe robes, but no dresses). Also, as a boy who plays female characters, I like having my girls wear coats over their dresses, if they're wearing dresses.

This idea introduces the accessories, neckwear, and jackets/coats. I liked how they introduced bottoms and footwear in New Leaf, so why not the others?

Coats/Jackets:

The first item to introduce is the jackets and coats. Instead of having long sleeve shirts as jackets and dresses as coats, they should have them as overwear (where they wear them over their clothes). Just letting you know, jackets look like shirts as coats look like dresses. The only difference is that the characters can wear shirts with jackets over them or still have bottoms when they're wearing a coat. You can even wear jackets over dresses, but it would only cover the top part of the dress. Either way, coats and jackets have long sleeves.

This doesn't mean that long sleeve shirts or dresses are out of the game. It means that the "coats" and "jackets" won't count as tops or dresses. And just like headwear and footwear, jackets and coats can be removed.

Neckwear:

Another type of clothing they should introduce in the next game is neck items. These items include, but aren't limited to, necklaces and scarves. If you have seen my old signature, you probably know that Kaylee, Jenny, and Penny all have scarves, despite being part of the design. If the neckwear (and jackets/coats) were introduced, then the scarf, coat, and dress would be three different items for each woman in StarFall rather than one of the same.

All neck items will be over the jacket or coat. If no jacket or coat is worn, they will be over the tops.

Accessories:

First of all, the accessories from WW, CF, and NL will be renamed to "facewear". Accessories are additional items like purses and backpacks. Boys can wear backpacks while girls can wear purses, and vice versa. Not only this makes your characters fashionable, but they are able to carry more items at once. You can probably sell 32 coelacanths at a time with additional space.

New pro patterns:

Although I reccomend that things should be kept child friendly, I think pro design bottoms (pants, shorts, and skirts) should be a new feature. Same with pro jackets and pro coats. Ever since the pro patterns feature was introduced in City Folk, I think it is a very good idea. Do you not like the limited items we have? I personally prefer pre-made tops, but pro-design dresses. But we should have more.

Extended pattern space:

The last thing I would like to talk about is the extended pattern space. Now you can hold up to 20 patterns at once, but you can only see 5 patterns in your pattern inventory at a time. It's better than having your alternative characters hold onto your extra patterns.

Coming up next... Multiple catalogs.
