I joined the forum not that long ago, and I have been trying to engage with the community here, mostly within the new leaf board.
Both times I have tried to create a thread, I have almost immediately recieved a warning by the moderators that my thread was "low effort", and particularly the second time this seemed a bit unjustified
I get that forums need to have rules, but if they are so strictly enforced that you can't even discuss what the forum was created for, then what's the point?
It just sucks

What were the threads about
I don't particularly remember what the first one was about, but the second one was me sharing a double rainbow I found for the first time, which I only shared because they are (afaik) EXCEPTIONALLY rare

If it helps, there are a bunch of threads out there that you can post images in the replies about a double rainbow which is probably why they wouldn't consider it substantial enough for your own thread. But if you want to dispute it or get a better explanation of why they took it down, you can make a thread here and ask:

Probably won't result in anything trying to dispute it
Guess I'll just talk in existing threads from now on -_-
This whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because I'm just trying to have a good time interacting with other people

Honestly, while I don't really use the Animal Crossing boards much anymore, I'm assuming there might not be a "Share your double rainbows photos" thread. It's possible if you made a thread like that they'd be less inclined to take it down. Generally threads that ask questions or prompt responses are higher quality than just sharing discoveries. (y)

Yeah, I guess it was wrong to create a whole thread about it, but it just felt harsh though, although that's probably not how it was intended
I'm going to lock this thread because I made it out of pure salt :|

I, uh, can't actually lock the thread
Is that a site issue or am I blind?

You can only lock threads if they are for online play I believe

Hi there!

You have received these warnings due to making new threads that only contain an image or a video. As stated in the warning themselves, these posts violated our Post Quality rules. It is important to remember that an internet forum is a discussion-driven platform, so we require posts—especially the ones that kickstart a new thread!—to have a little more substance to them than this. If you are going to post media on the forum it is better to take the time to include a line or two of text alongside the image/video to explain why you are posting it and to encourage good quality replies in response.

I can see that you are new here, so it would be a good idea to take the time to familiarise yourself with our Rules and Guidelines in order to better comprehend the standard that posts are expected to adhere to on the forum. These rules have been put in place to minimise spam and to ensure that discussion threads remain engaging and interesting.

It is also worth noting that we have various pinned threads in each board for popular topics. If you wish to share screenshots of your gameplay, please use either The Official New Leaf Screenshot Thread! or the Screenshots & Video Capture Share Hub for Animal Crossing: New Horizons threads rather than creating a new thread. This is to prevent the AC:NL and AC:NH boards from becoming flooded with many screenshot threads.

If you wish to discuss the site rules with us further please create a thread in Contact the Staff and one of us will be happy to take the time to talk it through with you.

Thank you for reaching out, it means a lot
I will read up on the rules to try not to break them again
After thinking for a bit, yeah I can understand why those threads were taken down, they were nothing more than screenshot shares after all, nothing about them provoked a conversation of any kind
I will try my best to post content in the correct places in the future

Also, this isn’t related to the topic of thread, but you can probably tag a Staff member and they’ll be happy to lock any thread for you. If the question is answered, there shouldn’t be any problems locking the thread, especially if there’s no point in further discussion.

While members may request a thread be locked (via the report system; please don't tag us) this will be handled at staff discretion, and in most cases we will reject the request unless we can see a good reason it should be closed. Wherever possible we will leave threads open to allow other people who may have similar concerns or enquiries the opportunity to speak. This is especially true here in Bell Tree HQ where the majority of the threads are to do with site-related matters. Threads will sink naturally when no one has a use for them any further.

Thanks for the clear clarification. I wasn’t 100% sure.

protip for the future: just toss in a few sentences of relation to what you're gonna post a thread about

then you likely won't get slapped with a warning for low quality posts (though people may still just ignore your thread, forums just be like that)

I mean no offense, but... that's quite a negative way of thinking, just assuming it will be useless instead of actually trying  I'm sorry that you had such a bumpy start, but please believe it, that's just a bit of bad luck.
I've been around here in the forums for some years and in several ocassions found myself talking to the staff. While a couple of times I wasn't totally satisfied with the outcome and grumbled about it a bit, others I've been deeply grateful for the help and support they provided.
My advice, in case it might lift your spirit a tiny bit, is to ask when you don't understand :) Even if the outcome isn't to your liking, at the very least I'm sure it will be listened and considered, actually worked on whatever it is. Which is already a lot more that can be said about the silent/invisible staff from other places.

Well now that this post is back up once again, I just need to comment. I think “bed side manner” is what this person was referring too. The world is REALLY tough right now, and we could all do with a little more kindness to each other!

While I previously stated this above, we feel that the recent bumps to this thread haven't been particularly constructive in furthering the discussion nor have they raised any questions of their own. After talking it over with another staff member we have made the decision to close the thread so that it may sink honourably into the depths of Bell Tree HQ and the OP will no longer have to be reminded of it.
