Insane School Rules?

I attended public school but it was public school in a very small awful conservative town. I got in trouble for standing for the pledge and saying it was really creepy to talk to a piece of fabric. I got in trouble for wearing pjs to school a lot, we had a teacher who got sick with cancer and they held a prayer vigil kind of weird thing and i didn't go and half the teachers thought i was satan, and i got sent home one day for wearing a hooters tshirt lol

it was awful. I pushed back a lot for my own individuality's sake and they hated anything that wasn't bible belt. When I got older and into high school it levelled out a little bit and I was in a lot of extra curriculars and did journalism for the school paper and yearbook, but if i thought something was bs i gladly called them out for it.

I'm not really in school anymore because of the pandemic and I only do it online like lots of people do at my school. But the rules they have for the zoom classes are insane. We have to keep our webcams on, we can't be in bed, they disabled virtual backgrounds, we can't be on our phones, and sometimes the teachers can directly monitor our computer screens, I really hate all those rules. We also wake up at 7:45 AM which is too early for me and I am usually sleep deprived because I have so much homework. But I don't think anybody really follows most of them because there's not much that the school can do about it.

having been a teacher that really doesn't sound that unreasonable. like what would make anyone think being in bed would be something appropriate to do? need to show at least a modicum interest and couth. and being up by almost 8 is almost a luxury. doesn't even require being up at dawn for a bus route. you would be expected to keep yourself on task in a school building, so as a teacher it doesn't seem like a huge concession. what sort of rules did your school have on-site that makes these seem "insane?"

the bedroom privacy thing I understand, but there are other environments you could place yourself that have no personal details. i mean backgrounds aren't the be all. i can't speak to your homework, but having stacks of it to check isn't something we greatly enjoy, so if you're really sure you can't manage your time any better than you are, the work load may just be a necessary evil being that lectures are not enough during a pandemic to keep your studies in your head.

and also i'm young for a teacher and understand phones are necessary technology, so answering something important happens. but like I can't think of why students would think distance learning during a health crisis is a vacation just because you're at home? you wouldn't be doing that during school hours, so this is hardly an overreach to me.

then again idk, if this is how it's affecting kids, i'm not sure there is enough engagement. the informal methods some districts are using is silly. i mean, zoom, really? my state offers a dedicated virtual school program even when school is open and it was nothing like this haphazard chaos. it cannot be difficult to develop an actual distance program that does not require such personal details and stays within school hours.

I remember when I was in the 6th grade, we couldn't open our locker before first period until the bell rang. -.-
