I know we still have half the year left, but I want your opinions on whether 2017 was better or worse.

I have to say that 2016 was actually a better year for me when it came to the internal events (personal life). Even though I am taking better classes this year than last year, and I am working on a better town in ACNL than before (from what I took care of), 2016 was mostly better than 2017. Now when it comes to the external events (like what you see on the news), 2016 was a very rough year, but I felt that 2017 was even worse, especially on the political issues. At least the celebrity deaths isn't as bad this year, and Nintendo is doing much better after the whole Wii U trouble.

For me, they were both decent years, and 2017 doesn't really feel any different TBH. However, politically, they've been some of the worst years I can think of.

David Bowie died in 2016. That automatically makes 2017 the best year of my life in comparison.

I actually feel that the last five years (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017) were very rough years when the issue is politics. Ever since the shooting of Trayvon Martin and the aftermath, our country started to go to hell. And Trump's campaign for presidency in 2015 made it even worse. But it did move that direction very slowly, up until 2016 when it became more rapid.

2016 contained one of the top 5 moments of my life but it all went kind of down and steadied out in 2017. So it's a tie because it kind of averages out!

for me, this year hasn't been too great. my depression seems to be getting worse, along with my image and thoughts of myself.

however, i've interacted with people a bit more this year, so thats a plus.

...No. We had four terrorist attacks in the span of two months, Trump is president and North Korea is slowly becoming a bigger threat.

but there's a life is strange prequel coming out so i guess it ok lol.

Hard to believe we're already over halfway through the year.

2016 was absolutely dreadful for me. Faced awful mental health issues that were only ramped up by unsuitable medication, medical professionals almost seemed as if they were trying to convince me that I was apparently suicidal, and I ended up having to leave Honours year and my home (and, consequently, my independence). I was motivated enough to try to start fresh but it was pretty rocky and I didn't really have the support of many of those around me until I was able to prove I'd stick with it.

2017... is better in some ways but also has its downfalls. It has been very up and down. It feels like my life is on the right track but there are just so many hurdles. But in terms of health it's been a million times better.

I've started working harder but it's become terrible for the UK with all the attacks and I wasn't expecting that. :/ also trump of course

My laptop broke one part of the LED screen, I was unable to draw for 3 months, My 3ds cant seem to have one button to work, broke my arm...
Yeah 2017 was great

I never really liked the whole "2016" is the worst year bit. My worst year personally was 2014, and it was driving me crazy hearing people constantly complain about 2016. There were bad events, sure, but there have always been celebrity deaths (which is crazy in the first place because good people die all the time, they're just not famous). I don't know what made people collectively look at all the negative things that happened last year but I really hope it doesn't happen again because it was mentally and emotionally exhausting having to hear about it all the time. For me it felt like something that was popularized and many people decided that it was a bad year for them as well. It just felt so shallow.

2017 is less than stellar politically, but truly, a bad year can only be decided personally. Not to mention, a year is an arbitrary length of time, some people could be run through the mud July - June.

tl;dr I have negative opinions of an overblown meme, and everyone is going to have a horrible time at some point. But don't think bad events will be so neatly localized within a timeframe and without positives. Life happens and what's next is always unpredictable. So take care of yourself and stay true to what you believe in - growth takes time, and it's never easy.

I'd say they are about even, though I'm kinda looking forward to the fall when I am finally a junior in HS and I can start looking for colleges.

No I can't say it was any better. I'm not wholly optimistic either.

Very similar in terms of personal events. I've been pretty suicidal both years (2017 started off with happy moods, though). I've gone through heartbreak in both years (I'm going through one right now). 2017 has been atrocious for my loneliness though. I don't think I've actually ever felt so alone.
Terrorism is really bad this year, unless that's only because I've recently taken an interest in terrorism and I never focused on last year's events.

In some little ways it's better, but for the most part everything is about the same. :(
I haven't made that much progress in my life to consider it "better" but I hope that 2018 is the year for me, especially since that's when I graduate college. o:

No, not at all actually. First half of 2016 was great, second half was meh. First half of this year was mediocre.

Yeah, 2014 was also my worst year, and honestly 2012 and 2013 came very close. 2014 was my overall worst though because I faced a rejection from a girl I really liked at the very end of my 8th grade year, my grandpa died just four days after that, my mom had a terrible experience with a new teaching job once my freshman year started that just a week into the school year she quit because of an incident (the parents, on back-to-school night, circled around her angrily) and had continual panic attacks during and after the incident, and my grades were horrid during my freshman year of high school. Granted, I didn't have that great of teachers (no one in the school was doing well at all), but for my dad who it became painfully clear in the fall of 2012 cared about my grades to the point where it affected our relationship, it didn't make things any better.

2016 was interesting for me, I made a lot of friends during training but unfortunately not a lot of them are stationed with me. I also dislocated my kneecap and broke two bones while training as well. I also moved to Hawaii though so that's a positive.

2017 has involved a lot of training and traveling and more injuries. Dislocated my kneecap again in April, but I'm doing fine now. Can't wait to come home to my family for Christmas though.
