So, with the wifi servers shut down, is it worth buying AC City Folk now?
I already own the Gamecube version, as well as Animal Crossing Wild World for the ds and Animal Crossing New Leaf for the 3ds, and enjoy all of them! Is City Folk that different from them?

I rarely played online with CF, but that's just my personal preference. I think it's definitely worth purchasing, even without wifi.

I actually don't recommend City Folk, because I found it horribly boring... it was basically Wild World with an added city. You do get to choose where you put your house, so that's nice, but I think your money is best spent elsewhere.

I recommend it. It's very underrated, I used to hate it but now I dont

I personally didn't like City Folk and wouldn't recommend it for two reasons:
1. I think the Animal Crossing franchise is better suited to handhelds.
2. City Folk is basically Wild World ported to the Wii with better graphics and the city (where the only new additions are Kicks and GracieGrace furniture anyways). Since you already have Wild World, it won't be much of a new experience for you.

If you are already playing ACNL, you'll be disappointed with City Folk, especially if you can't play it online.

If you want some specific reasons, here are two:

1. The bus ride back and forth between the city is awful. You have to listen to Kapp'n yap for a couple of minutes and there is no skipping it.

2. Grass wear in CF is awful. Your entire town will end up looking like a desert with no grass just by walking on grass to get from place to place.

What everyone forgets to mention when comparing WW to CF is that CF has real holidays in it wheras WW only had Yay Day and Yawn Day and Blah Day and...

That's a big reason why I will always prefer CF to WW, especially now that Wifi has been shut down.

No.

Honestly it hasn't aged well, and you're better off with Wild World...even if it has only very few holidays. :p

I was wondering the same thing and now that I've read this thread, I don't think I'm going to get it. But that's just me.

If you absolutely have to have it for collector's sake, I'd say get it. But only if you can find it for less than $30. It's still $34.99 at my local Gamestops, USED.

I was never a big fan of CF. While I played WW for a long time, CF just never drew me in and I hated the grass wear. I love the Gamecube version, but I much prefer the franchise on handhelds.

I hated City Folk. I mean, I liked it at the time because it was a new AC game with so much to do, but gameplay was a hassle. The fact that you had to point and click everywhere you went was annoying imo. It did open me up to lots of new things and had some great ideas what with Wisp the Genie and the Reset Center where you could get the Silver Axe, but overall felt underdeveloped.

Wild World kept me going for years, though. City Folk was basically Wild World copied and pasted onto the Wii.

You can use the nunchuck to move your character. It's much easier than the point and click method using the Wiimote. ;)

City Folk's okay, but given that it's basically a worse version of Wild World, I'd personally just stick with WW.

I originally got City Folk used, and only played it for a month and a half before buying New Leaf. At the time I liked it but compared to NL it's lacking.

If you have New Leaf, then no. New Leaf seems way better in comparison!

I think it depends on how much you have to pay for CF. 5 USD? All right. 10 USD? That's pushing it, I personally wouldn't get it.

I played Wild World before City Folk, and for whatever reason the latter never really drew me in. Fear of extreme grass wear was one thing, this was before I knew about ACToolkit. I think the other reason was that it didn't feel substantially different from Wild World. I didn't feel like dropping a town I was emotionally invested in, for what felt like a higher-res port with a shopping plaza that didn't add or substantially improve mechanics.

There's nothing really wrong with the mechanics (aside from grass wear), but since you've played WW already, I don't think you'll get any new joys out of CF.
