so everytime i watch an english movie almost everytime i will have problem listening to the dialogue well. i just cant get wat the actors are saying and because of that i end up not understanding the movie. anyone experiences the same thing?

YES sometimes!! not as bad in movies as it is over the phone, but i still understand what you mean. its like i can hear them talking but nothing makes sense and i have to ask them to repeat themselves/rewind the movie a couple of times

Your tv is probably set for 7.1 sound when you don't have surround sound speakers, so other noises overwhelm the dialogue. That or you are just not amazing at English, happens to the best too though.

Not often but I did get used to having subtitles so it's hard to go back with just audio now

I am a native English speaker and sometimes I watch Netflix in the bath while the water is running and it becomes incredibly hard to understand people even if I can hear them speaking just fine

i have to watch things w subtitles or it'll bother me when i don't hear what someone says?? i've gotten used to it so it'd be weird to watch w just audio like if a website for tv shows doesn't have subtitles i will not watch it
also i always ask my friends to repeat things lol

Yeah, I always use subtitles if they're available. Rewatching old movies is crazy. I'm always thinking, "Oh, that's what they said..."

??? do you mean any movies at all that are in English dialogue?

I do have to use subtitles on action/thug/gangster movies from the UK, like Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels, and Layer Cake, and the like--, i can't understand what the street thug type characters are saying -- part of it is the accent, the other part is use of slang that is foreign to me...

I have trouble sometimes and I am speak English fluently, I usually have subtitles on, even when it's super loud I prefer subtitles because if I don't have them I'll miss things they say.

i generally eat whilst im watching stuff (like for example, im eating ice cream whilst watching yuri on ice rn) so i always have subs on since either the clacking of my laptop keyboard (OR MY ****ING JAW thanks tmjd ) or the food noises make it harder to hear

I can usually understand what they're saying but I prefer having subs for them since it's easier.

It's not just you! English is my native language and I use subtitles a LOT. I hate having the TV super loud because I'm sound-sensitive too. I experience it sometimes when I am trying to listen to someone as well, it's like my brain has a hard time processing speech, or a harder time processing it versus reading. I wonder if there is a name for this...?

For me, it depends if the actors are loud enough. If they mumble, rip to any dialogue.

Since I watch subbed anime pretty much all the time, it really is weird not to look down in search of subs. xP
