It seems like a lot of people hate it, and I'm not sure why. I'm curious about why people hate it. If anyone thinks they know, reply below. I'm just really curious.

I don't think ACWW is hated, it's just not as popular anymore. Most people who first play ACNL won't enjoy ACWW (as much) because they're already used to how good ACNL is. What's the point of playing a game pretty much the same as ACNL, but with worse graphics and not as many things to do? Also, everyone is already playing ACNL, so there won't be as much people to connect with in ACWW. This is similar to old movies and modern movies. Old movies aren't hated, there are just better movies that we could be watching atm. They're fun to go back and watch every now and then, but there are better options, if you know what I mean.

People hate WW?
From what I've seen, a lot of people rate it as their favorite game in the series.

It was really popular when came out despite lacking features that the original version had.
But it was a lot more popular than the original and is the introduction to the series for most people, and as it was the first game in the series with online play, it was the one that built the Animal Crossing online community.

The problem is, as an early DS game, it has aged horribly, looking almost 2D, framerate often in the single digits, it's a wonder people were so impressed at the time :)
When City Folk came out, it was honestly not really a sequel and more a re-make with a handful of features that people took for granted, it sort of became clear how lacking Wild World was.
It's by no means a bad game, but it is so dated that it's hard to play outside of a quick nostalgia trip.

Then New Leaf came out making City Folk seem lacking in comparison :)
Even if City Folk ran a lot better, I can't wait for the Wii U AC game to see the series back at 60fps again.

Tl;dr, It's not really hated, but once the rose tinted glasses come off, it's just not as fun as people remember.

Tons of people love WW because it was the first portable one. Like lost noob said, it's age really shows and New Leaf kind o revived it

People were impressed at the time, because it was Nintendo 64 graphics on a handheld. Before that Game Boy Advance was managing Super Nintendo level graphics. However, that said, if you play Wild World on the DS, it's fine, it's playing it on 3DS really makes it look bad. It was designed with the DS in mind, which is why it's setup the way it is (all the action on the new touch screen), and New Leaf was designed for the 3DS (all the action on the new 3D without glasses screen). Of course if you watch the New Leaf, or as it was known in 2011, Animal Crossing 3DS, the trees and visuals of that game looks more like Wild World than the current New Leaf, so they really polished it, much more than Wild World's was.

I love WW, I'm just resetting because my previous town got screwed up c:
Looking for a good map again...

I don't wanna restart.
My childhood would be erased.

Like it's been said, WW isn't really hated. For me it was my first game in the series, and really opened my heart for AC. I poured hours and hours into that game! Personally, I never got into ACCF, and continued to play WW up until the moment NL was released.
I haven't played it since, tbh.

WW pales compared to NL. It's still a great game, but going back to the limited activities and sort of wonky looking graphics just isn't the same anymore. It's sad, but true. With that said, I think I'm gonna restart my town for a little nostalgia trip... But yeah! Not hated/disliked, just outdated!

eh, wild world always felt like a portable gcn version? there are a few additions but a few drawbacks as well, overall its a bit of an improvement. the only reason I really liked this (and never picked up city folk in its place) is the portability. its not worth going back to other than for nostalgia reasons, but for its time it was a solid release
