I usually play with sound, even if I'm listening to music or something I'll still have the game sound on as well. Maybe I'll turn background music off in that case, but I pretty much always have the sound effects on at least. The only exception would be in public without headphones, then I'd have the sound off as to not bother other people.
Usually without sound, unless I really need it or have headphones. Sometimes sounds is overwhelming, sometimes I just don't want to bother people around me.
I usually play games with the sound on, but there are exceptions. In particular, if I'm working on something especially grindy (like hunting/breeding for shiny Pokemon), I may have a show on or music in the background (or sometimes nothing at all).
I often will initially play with sound, although it depends if I'm in an area/environment where I can listen or not, and depends on the game itself. I do usually prefer silence in general in my environment, so if it's the sort of game that doesn't rely on audio cues for the gameplay, I usually then will start playing without the sound, but I can often hear the soundtrack or sound effects in my head/memory afterwards!
Some games certainly need sound on.
Like I would never go tarantula hunting without turning up the sound all the way. I won't let those sneaky spiders get the best of me, hehe!
I always play with sound because it helps me immerse in the game better.
There are some amazing music in video games and I enjoy listening to them as I am playing. Though, sometimes the battle music gets tedious, but it is still enjoyable nonetheless.
I think the ONLY time I close off the music was during the blood moon in Breath of the Wild because I didn't like the spooky music
I usually play with sound unless i'm watching something at the same time, but NH music in particular can get pretty annoying so sometimes I'll just play in silence.
I prefer playing with sound but lately i've been playing without it, i lost my headphones and don't want to bother anyone :/
except rhythm heaven, playing it without sound is sad
Depends a lot on how important sound is to a game, and how much I like the soundtrack. In games where it's not important I might have the sound muted while listening to something else, but I play enough games with audio cues that I really can't play very well unless I can hear.
I always play with the sound on, since ultimately the sounds are part of the overall experience with a video game and can help elevate it! The only time I might lower/mute the volume is if I was grinding away in a game and thus didn't need the tedium of hearing the same thing over and over and wanted to listen to something else instead.
I play with sound on because I want the full experience the makers of the game wanted us to feel. Sometimes the music starts off with me thinking "uhh... " then an hour later I can't imagine anything else. It becomes the identity of the game.
It's a bit of both for me depending on various circumstances. For new games I usually want to check out the music. For games I've played a lot I will sometimes turn sound off and listen to something else. If I'm playing handheld with no headphones and someone else is in the room, sound off. For some games, I'm not playing the game I'm just sitting there with my game open like
Ace Attorney.... So many extra hours in those games because I'm just listening to the songs
