Is it worth it to buy a 2nd copy of the game?

If you do get the physical copy . I forgot I got mine at Walmart for 55. I know 5 dollars isn’t a lot but better then nothing if you want a new one,

Maybe I should get amazon gift card and just get it. I do have some money saved up.

Seems like the price is a big reason deterring you from getting a second copy. Is it possible to trade an existing game you don't want anymore for ACNH?
I traded SSB for mine, it saved me the hassle of trying to sell SSB (which I got secondhand) and it's more environmental imo.

a used copy of the game would serve you well if you want 2 copies but are a bit iffy about the price!! if you're a bit sus of ebay due to scalpers etc, try mercari -- i got a bunch of used games and even my acnh switch off of there, never had a bad experience in 3 years of using the site!!

Okay I made a decision. I am going to get amazon gift card and buy the game and DLC. I counted how much money I have and I do have enough to spend it. This has been holding me back for so long I've decided to do it.

I don't have a second Switch, so the only way I would get a second copy of the game (mine is digital and it was a gift from some friends) is if Nintendo decides to do the right thing by releasing a physical "complete edition" of the game (all content included on the cartridge, from the free updates to the paid dlc) down the line.

I have 2 switches so I have 2 copies now. I would say it’s worth it. Like if I find something I don’t have on one island, I’d get it, it’s much faster to get everything. And with the various types of items you can redeem nook miles for, it’s just ..
I don’t even have to the words for it lol..

I have two islands bc I own 2 switches (regular and lite) and my bf took me on his family plan on one of the accounts! So basically you only need 1 copy of the game but 2 Switches and 2 online memberships.
i wouldn’t have bought a copy but this way I figured why not. (I bought the lite bc I prefer playing handheld in General, not bc of acnh).
It’s nice to transfer items back and forth and Also it enables you to realise two different island themes. My one island is tropical and I’m working on my second to make it city-core. So for me it’s worth it !

Update: I bought the 2nd copy of the game as well as the DLC and it came to $84.89 in total. Again I had the right amount of money left so I am pleased to say that it went well and now I am enjoying the game more than ever. Thank you guys for the help!

For me personally, no. It's not the cost that's the problem as much as I don't think I would actually feel the need for it. The very limited outdoor customization in NL plus the limited storage space and huge amount of non-reorderable items made me want 2 islands because I constantly felt like I didn't have enough areas to have fun decorating. I felt like I had to use some of the possible space for decorating just to store certain things.

For NH, we have an entire island we can decorate how we want. Not only that, but now with HHP we can decorate lots more houses and buildings, and we can even decorate our own villagers' houses. NH also is much more generous with the storage space and most of the non-reorderable items are either craftable or cost Nook Miles, so you can just make more or order more when you need it. The amount of non-reorderable items that are difficult to get again is much, much smaller in this game so you can easily store it all and have tons of room for whatever else.

I see you decided to get a second copy of the game, so have fun! :)

After getting the 2nd copy I transferred my users to different islands and they kept all their bells, items, nook miles, and the fully upgraded home with them and I didn't have to worry about learning DIYS again. Its funny how Tom Nook still tells me stuff that I already know but corrects himself saying "Oh you just moved to the island so there is no need for explanation"

Glad to hear you were able to transfer some of your residents! Hope you enjoy your second island! It's convenient having access to different things without having to find someone online.

I got a Switch Lite earlier this year and bought a second copy of the game. I got a digital copy the first time and a physical copy the second time. I like having a second island. I wanted one mainly so I could get items I couldn't find/get on my main island. I'm not able to go online and trade with others because of my Internet settings, so I had a lot of trouble getting color variants and such.

Now that we can have Cyrus customize items we couldn't including the Nook Mile rewards, it's not as necessary to have access to an island with a different color airport. But it's still nice! I've played every day since launch on my main island but am still missing several DIYs, rugs, seasonal items, etc. I have never time-traveled on my main island but do on my second. If I need a bug or fish for the models or some seasonal materials like Easter eggs or a certain Zodiac star fragment, I can just change the time (I guess we might be able to get these things from Kapp'n's tours now, though). It's nice. I also missed a color variation for the Phrygian hat, so I hope to order the color I need on my second island to give to my first.

I tested local play and it works really good. I find its a lot more faster than online play with you no longer have to enter the dodo code or Orville asking you this annoying question "So who do you want to invite" or "How do you want to travel"

I thought you didn't need to purchase multiple copies of the same game-- you can just log in on another switch and download the game from your account, or am I misremembering? Islands are per console but it can be from, technically, the same game copy. No?

I wish its like New Leaf where you can just change catridges and each catridge on u sed market is less than 20

Well its only if you are doing island transfer or trying to play local play. It is kinda rubbish how they forced you have a 2nd copy of the game just to play local co-op online. If you had a digital copy it is possible to redownload the game and let someone else play it but it involves de-registering the switch just to play it, which can get annoying, which is why I had to get the 2nd copy. Its the same issue if you were to get a physical copy. I must say Nintendo really screwed people over with this restriction. It is confusing to figure out I will admit.
