It appears soCrap, I am the only one that voted yes![]()
Just made me spit my tea outI don't think he's a bad person, but I really didn't appreciate when he pushed me to the ground and broke my kneecaps with a baseball bat before hurling thinly-veiled threats towards my family when I failed to pay my loan in a timely manner. Just seems kind of disrespectful.
Yeah I think he's ok. Just very entrepreneurial and has great business senseNot evil, just greedy and misunderstood.
I just think 'How can you hate him?'. Gives you a whole island and allows you to repay the loans at your own pace. It's brought up again and again, and some hate him due to his capitalism drive or even find him annoying because in past games he would make you work for him in the beginning of the game, and also until New Leaf, force you into expanding your house.
In all reality though, with all the games, he is a very generous and caring person. You always show up in his town with no money, and he is always there to get you a house with no down payment, and gives you a loan with no credit check, and these loans have no APR interest, and no deadlines and terms and conditions.
Tom Nook going into detail about his life, how he's content with his "greedy raccoon salesman" reputation — as he believes this complacency will show young'uns the hardships of life, how he explains his own hardships to the player, a business mistake that resulted in a fractured friendship and cautioning others to not make the same economical mistakes as he did, and his relationship with Sable is just... precious.
Ah, so that's where all my Bells wentYes, yes he is. I would not be surprised if he sneaks into your house and counts your gold.
I was too young too know about the backstory in WWStill can't believe no one has mentioned the amount of backstory he gets in Wild World. That game is perhaps the best evidence anyone would ever need to know that Tom Nook is NOT evil. He might be greedy, stupidly-written in the GameCube localization, and obnoxious with his "serious business" attitude when he forces you into a part-time job, yet he still allows you to live in your house, despite giving you a debt to pay, and you can go about never paying it. That's nicer than any home provider in real life.
WW's writing was fantastic when it came to these special characters. Here's an excerpt of a post I made in another thread:
I agree with youNO. He's just a simple guy living life by the rules, he's not that bad![]()
The stalking when you're in his shop can be a bit strangeI personally don’t like Nook. He follows you around like a criminal in the shop. He just gets in the way. Mable and Sable also follow you around. Redd even follows you around. Do I hate them? Not even close. I actually really like Redd. I hate Nook, though. It seems like I have some anger towards him.
I don't know his backstory that well, I'll give it a read. I like Toom Nook too!I think he’s neutral. But it’s hard to dislike him; he’s so cute and cuddly! Also his backstory with Label and her sisters makes me respect him just a bit more.
I find it hilarious, the fact it's an ongoing debate whether a virtual character in a life sim game is evilno, but i do think it's very funny/harmless when people call him that XD
Yesss, great comparison!Nah,Tom Nook isn't evil. He's just a tad greedy. He kind of reminds me of Fezziwig from A Christmas Carol because while he's undoubtedly a businessman, he understands that making money is not the most important thing in the world.
It seems to divide opinion hahaNope I voted yes, he is evil, evil I say.
I agree with you! You can pay off the debt at your own pace. Really generous!I wouldn't say evil at all.
When I played Wild World, I thought he was this greedy guy who only cared about money. Sure he's not as humble as the Able Sisters, but he's actually not greedy.
Someone on here pointed out how he lets you have a mortage with no interest rates and honestly couldn't care less if you pay it off or not. That's pretty generous if you ask me!
This cracked me up
