A few days after the new trailer I was thinking about what kind of role that Isabelle will play in New Horizons. Apparently, she won't come until later, and maybe not until you pay off a loan or two. But now, I think I might have an idea that seems perfect for her. In New Leaf, she was always the one helping you, the mayor, build (mostly) ambitious public-works projects, ranging from outdoor trash-cans to buildings. Well, I believe in New Horizons that she will play a similar role in helping to design and build bigger projects like buildings and maybe landmarks, but instead of being an assistant, she will become the island's architect.

While there are things that you can make yourself and place outside, it would be a little baffling if your character could build something like a museum straight from their inventory, so Isabelle would be the one to help them with that. It would probably work like in New Leaf: you tell her where you want the building, she sets up a plot of land for it, and collects donations for it. Unlike things that you craft yourself, everyone on the island, players and villagers, will be able to pitch in. It will probably ask for either materials, bells, or both.

So if my theory becomes real, then Isabelle sure has moved up in the world; from Mayor's Assistant to Island Architect. But then again, that's just a theory...

Based on the information released, that’s one of 2 viable theories. I like yours and would prefer to have all shops/services on the island; however, I have a feeling they haven’t shown any buildings on the island because they’re all somewhere else. The mainland.

I think the shops are accessible at the start of the game because there was customized furniture in the tent, and it wouldn’t make sense for Reese and Cyrus to set up shop on a deserted island with 2 villagers. So I’m assuming there’s some kind of harbor plaza you can travel to where you can visit shops/museum. I’m sure you can set up buildings on the island too, like a police station and The Roost, but I have a feeling we’re gonna have another main street in NH.

At the end of the promo video where the villagers throws bait into the ocean, that’s on a dock separate from the one that holds the airport. I’m guessing that’s where we’d catch a ferry to the mainland, it’s kinda long to be a dock for Cap’n’s little motor boat.

But that’s just a theory, a Game Theory!

I was actually thinking of this as well. Though, I'm not sure how I would feel about this. While it does give you more space to play around with on your island, it would be really inconvenient to have to take a boat to go shopping, since I tend to run back and forth anyway. If this is the case, it should be reserved for specialty shops/services kind of like with City Folk.

Very interesting theory. Isabelle being an architect might actually be very cool. If she does do that, she is definitely moving up in the world. I wasn't very fond of donating money to projects, but if it does happen this way, I'm fine with it.

Also another interesting theory. :) Having a mainland to go to would be nice because in the latest trailer they've shown, the main male character was wearing different clothes in one of the scenes. So there has got to be a mainland to get other clothes from in the beginning.

I hope she's just a character you meet in the coffee shop, for a change.

I'd love to see Phyllis in any future town hall.

I honestly prefer he buildings be place on another piece of land. That just gives us more land to work with and be creative with. If we place a bunch of buildings on the island, it will just take up a lot of space that I would rather use for customizing.

Me too. I remember posting that I hope there's a mainland where you can fly/catch a boat to, and have all the shops there.

Nice to see you around again Nooblord!!

I really do hope there’s some kinda mainland we can go to, especially with HHD showing the possibilities of dedicating a whole tiered street area with facilities. I’m hoping Isabelle’s role is similar to HHD in that she’ll help us design and decorate shop facilities and buildings that our visitors can visit as well. It will bring a whole new element of customization to make everyones island unique. I’m not completely opposed to shops being on the main island but having all shops would definitely be hectic, even with the map expansion. I’d be fine with just retail or something making a return but that’s it.

Thanks :D Been a while.

That’s understandable. I guess how I’d feel on having all shops on the island would depend on the size of the town. But I definitely think they’ll incorporate some HHD elements in the game, whether it’ll be through PWPs on the island or buildings on the mainland, that’d be awesome either way.

I'd prefer if most shops would be in one area that can be quickly reached, like in New Leaf. But if it is like in City Folk, where it takes way to long to get to the city, it will be really annoying. They could place a boat on a peer that you can hop in and use to drive to the mainland, without going through any annoying and tedious dialog. This way you can go quickly back and forth without any hassle and still have a lot of space on your island.

I'm really curious to see how they handle this, because Issabelle doesn't fit New Horizions at all, but she's too popular to leave out, unlike say, Rover, who I've accepted probably won't be in this game.

Watch how Rover will be the pilot of the plane that brings you and the two starter villagers to the island
and also ask you questions again (not sure if this would be happen, but I mean at least it would be cool
if he gets a proper job and remains as that one character you see at the beginning).

I always imagine Isabelle becoming the new mayor of your town once the island is more developed, like
that she gets a promotion after her good work she did in New Leaf, as I also wouldn't mind if a NPC gets
the mayor job again. However, I do like the idea of Isabelle becoming the island's architect more, that
would be also a great job for Digby, who may also need a new job if the Happy Home Showcase doesn't
come back in a different version. He could become Isabelle's assistant or, if they work in shifts, Isabelle
could work at day time and Digby is available at night time for the player.

As the for the placement of the shops and buildings in general, someone posted in another thread a
pic of a way you can see at the back of the island, maybe this is the way to the place where you can
build everything? At least it would be annoying if you have to travel each time to another island to
go shopping, at least the standard shops/buildings like Timmy and Tommy's, Able Sisters or town
hall should be on your island, while "special" shops/buildings like Gracie's shop or the Dream Suite
can be on another island, which would work like the city in City Folk then.

I wouldn't mind that much if the shops weren't on the island. I'm a bell pincher so unless I just got lazy I'd probably craft a lot of my things and I liked main street. I don't really want all of my shops in my town/island, I think it looks much better with the way I design towns to have the in a separate area.
