[ ] is a boy, and he is blind, and is often criticized for looking like a girl, but he always argues that he can't tell what he looks like and therefore can't fix that. He is very easily startled, which often leads to him crying.
He doesn't like dead silence, because it makes him feel like he's in the dark. He's very scared of loud noises, and he's terrified of thunderstorms.
He tries to act stoic and unmoving, but he's actually very positive. If anyone knows how to look on the bright side it's him. He smiles a lot, and he's easily flustered. He acts very awkward around women. He believes in second chances more than anyone.
He likes just about any positive physical interaction. A hug, kiss, handshake, pat on the head, etc.
He is often very outspoken, because he prefers to be quiet and get lost in his own thoughts. He is quite the dreamer, and he secretly dreams of the day he will be able to see again.
The concept of pure hate makes him nauseous, and the thought of violence makes him sick.
He usually has the best intentions at heart, but he's very clumsy and makes a lot of mistakes, and sometimes he pokes or trips people with his white cane unknowingly.
backstory: at the young age of three, he became blind due to chlorine poisoning. he spilled a bottle of chlorox on his face, causing him to lose his eyesight and therefore become blind. because of this, his eyes are now a whitesmoke color. (a very, very light shade of gray.) after that, he started learning how to read braille, but he forgot all his english by the time school started.
so his parents put decided to homeschool him, and now he knows fluent english and spanish. at the age of 12, both his parents died in a car accident, forcing him to start school again. he is often criticized and bullied for looking like a girl and being blind, but he argues that he can't tell what he looks like and therefore can't change that.
appearances: he has waist-length wavy seashell colored hair, with choppy bangs that cover a bit of his whitesmoke color eyes. he has a very quaint and feminine appearance, with delicate features and small, pink lips. his eyes are a bit slanted downwards.
he has a very small build, and he has a 'rectangle' shaped body. his skin is very pale, almost a white color.

tell me how i can improve my oc, whats wrong with it, etc.!
harsh critique is allowed, and very appreciated >c<

ahhhh i think hes adorable!! i dont have any crits really, but i wanted to say i think hes really cute => great job!!

Kinda seems Gary Stu by the fact that he has dead parents, is criticised by others, bad eyesight...otherwise, great!

Well, not really, because he's not perfect, and not everybody loves him, therefore he is not Gary Stu.
Also, a Gary Stu/Marty Stu is an idealized character, and just because of the dead parents and people critizicing him doesnt make him a Gary Stu. In fact, its the complete opposite!
As I said before, Gary Stus are loved by everyone and are absolutely perfect, and have a ridiculously tragic past.
But anyways, thanks for the feedback!
Maybe try being a bit more specific??

A Gary Stu/Mary Sue is someone who is perfect in the creators eyes. Common traits like that aren't the best on characters. Maybe you should try getting some art of him!

just because they have "common traits" doesnt make them a mary sue???? i think my OCs are perfect, but they have tons of flaws just like i do. just because i love them doesnt make them mary sues. as long as something is well-developed, and there are reasonings behind things, its already beyond the realm of mary sue. .-. as pandy already explained this OC isnt beloved by everyone and super perfect... so just because it has some "common traits" doesnt mean its a mary sue..?

idk your criticism just seems unfounded and weak with no real backup. //shrugs

(also laughing at how bad eyesight makes him a gary stu oh my god what, god forbid something happens to someone)

The fluent in spanish & english is extremely iffy imo, especially since he's only 12. Is it just reading? Or can he also speak in both fluently?

aww, poor baby..
I got to ask though, which language was his first one that he learned?
I feel like whatever the second one is, maybe make his still learning? You can know a ton of a language but still not be completely fluent in it!!!
It could also make for cute moments when he's like "uhmmmm..." while trying to figure out how to say stuff/remember words!!!
He is in school too so maybe, just maybe, he's in a class to learn that language??? Like, his parents started teaching him but then they died? I dunno, throwing ideas around!!!

I can see where people might be like UGH DEAD PARENTS SO CLICHE....But here is the thing, it's not like there isn't kids in the world with dead parents...The only way I could see it as a problem would be if you made like...10 other ocs who ALL have dead parents. It's not totally a big deal?

The nice thing too is they you have a reason for him to be blind other than "he was born that way."

You also already have flaws for him. Sometimes when people start ocs, they forget to give them flaws right away and I'm happy you've already laid some out for him!!

I will totally beat up the people who bully him >:v
Please lemme know if you get art of him cause I'd like to see <333

Does he have foster parents?? If not it's pretty cliche, to be completely honest. A brilliant, picked on kid with dead parents who is all alone in this world just screams edgy.

It IS possible though. Especially with this generation's technology.

He forgot all his English by the time school started, which I assume was when he turned 5. After that, 7 years have passed and he's somehow Fluent in both Spanish and English? Yes, it's possible. But it's highly unrealistic, honestly.

Yeh i'm going to be cruel here and agree with sum of the others it does get a little bit mary-sue when he doewn't seem to have any real flaws in his character (clumsiness is extremely mary-sue ish btw)
I mean that to make it less clich? (atm he is very innocent and perfect) you could change his personality a little, like if he gets aggressive and rude to people when he is in situations he's scared of and become immature. That way he has a maybe more in depth flaw (unable to handle or deal with his own emotions in a way that doesn't hurt other people because he was home schooled and didn't learn to deal with stress around others or ) you could also link him enjoying physical contact to comfort (most people find it comforting because of how mothers hold their babies when they cry) SINCE HE SEE MS TO have a lot of anxiety issues. maybe try to build on his fears as being something he can't handle well to make him more complex and flawed yet still with good intentions at heart

Another thing you could do is make him maybe bitter towards other men or masculine guys/look down on other feminine guys as a reaction to his bullying about being feminine, or maybe he could be hateful towards more masculine women or something similar or something like that. Adding in more depth to his girly look could be like, making it so he actually intentionally has long hair (nd just likes the feel because his mum had long hair or something) or dresses girly because he was very attached to his mother and idolised her, and that he just uses blindness as a cover-up because he's embarrassed. Lterntively, he could just really like feminine things and is also too embarrassed to doit it so he uses being blind as an excuse again

Just some ideas I thought could add some depth to him, hope you like them

AHHHH, didnt see all these posts!
Thank you guys for all the suggestions and the compliments :O
Also, I should have put that there, but this is a ROUGH DRAFT, and he's currently MUCH older now. (I'm thinking somewhere between 15-18.)
Also, he's not alone!
He currently lives with his grandmother :)
Also, to answer other questions, he's scared of dead silence because it reminds him of the dark, and in the dark youre usually alone.
My battery's dead, so I'll answer your other questions later!!

Maybe his Grandma could be spanish

LOL

I don't think he is that much a Gary Stu, he does have some flaws... Or maybe I'm the only one who thinks that, because I used to roleplay with a kid who was like "Then he teleports behind everyone else because he suddenly get the power to do that, and he get machine guns instead of arms and 360 noscopes everyone and all people outside congratulate him and he becomes a hero!"

All the time. I go to two roleplaying rooms where OCs are MUCH worse and much more edgier than this.

ehh i kinda agree with the stu thing. the "flaws" you are referring to are easily redeemable making him for an all-around likeable person, and boring. i mean, he's blind. people pick on him for dressing like a girl. he really doesn't have any deeper issues?

some of the things you say about him contradict also. you describe him as trying to act "stoic and unmoving" but then immediately after say he "smiles a lot and is easily flustered"

and how is being "very outspoken" a result of "[preferring] to be quiet and get lost in his own thoughts" ??

also im not sure how well the "can't see what he looks like" thing works because if he wanted to look like a boy it wouldn't be to hard to get someone to help him idk blind people ive seen don't seem to have a problem w/ that. so maybe he wants to look like a a girl?

Green: I feel like you contradicted yourself there. Being outspoken means extroverted, loud, boisterous. Yet you say that he prefers to be quiet? I would clear up your stance on this.
Blue: Alright, so one of his flaws is being very cowardly, right? I would play around with this quite a bit; having a cowardly character is a TON of fun to RP! Rather than focus on "being blind", I would put more emphasis on this.
Red: Stoic, huh. I got the vibe that the rest of the character focused on being genuine and the like. If he's trying to hide how compassionate he is, then I would give a reason. Why is he being so stoic? Why doesn't he feel he can be open and honest?
Orange: You repeated yourself there, just an FYI. Also, from what I get from this, he is insecure about his blindness and his apparent female appearances. Maybe that could be a reason for his stoic exterior? As of now, his two biggest vices are his insecurities and his cowardly nature. Try to keep that in mind when RPing him.
Teal: How? I'm not sure how we jumped from Braille to English in terms of comprehension. How did he learn if he didn't know English? How did he learn two languages fluently if he completely forgot one by the time he was probably 6?

While I'm on this topic, I'd recommend you try to flesh out your character a lot more here. You have very brief descriptions of what happened to him in his life. How did those events make him feel? How did they build him into the person he is today? That's the kind of stuff that makes a good bio.
Purple: That goes against stoic. I actually have an idea of how you can incorporate all of this, you can take it or leave it, but I've got one: maybe to strangers he's stoic and the like, of course being clumsy, yet trying to hide his insecurities and acting apathetic. But once he starts trusting the person he's with, he shows his genuine side and starts making his cowardly features clear, whereas before he would try to act apathetic towards something, even if it scared him to death (when he's wearing that stoic mask).
Indigo: How did this affect him? Usually when parents die, it's absolutely tragic for the kid. I'd try to show how this affected him.
Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good rough draft of a character! I'd just flesh him out a little more and give him more description, so you have more of an idea of how he'd react in different cases. I'd try to build up his bio quite a bit more. His appearance works perfectly with his personality, so that's good. I'll make a list of good/bad traits, so hopefully that'll help:

Good:
  • Genuine
  • Good-hearted
  • Pacifist
  • Smart (2 languages)
  • Positive

Bad:
  • Cowardly
  • Insecure
  • Hides behind a persona
  • Clumsy
  • Blind (if you consider that bad)

That being said, I disagree completely that this character is too OP. They have plenty of flaws and good traits, and that's what makes them who they are.

When trying to put this character in an appropriate RP, I would put him in one that seriously questions his mental outlook. Try to make him struggle between what is good and what is bad. Force him to choose between being safe and working for the better good. Make it a HUGE internal struggle. That's going to be what makes this character great.

Also, I get the feeling that since he's blind and spent so long studying languages, he never focused that much on physical strength. I'd say that he has relatively low strength.

Hopefully this helps! :D
