So I adoooooore lazy villagers and as someone with chronic fatigue syndrome i see a lot of myself in them and their dopey-sleepy personalities. They’re always very kind and laid back which I love. ‘Lazy’ is a painful word for me though, linked to a lot of external and internalised ableism, so I really don’t like framing their behaviour as lazy, if that makes sense? It feels like a negative descriptor to put on lovely characters.

How do other people feel about the lazy villagers? Any other chronically ill or disabled folks playing AC? Is anyone else bugged by the naming of certain villager personality types?

As someone with chronic health issues (one of which includes fatigue), I totally understand this.

I don't have any feelings one way or the other to be honest. Yep, chronically ill with a number of things but mostly fibromyalgia and migraines here but I wake up tired. As for me, I don't let stuff like that bug me (if I did I'd be way crazier than I am now lol), but I do very much understand where you're coming from. My inbox is always open! <3

Thank you so much for your reply and kind words 💕 I think I'm still adjusting to the diagnosis and reframing previous negative thoughts I've had about myself :') Beating myself up over being lazy has been a whole thing that I'm still working on. It's weird the things that don't bug me, like I'm fully chill with kids openly staring at me when I'm in a wheelchair bc I love that they're curious, but certain words make me sad :'))
My inbox is open too if you ever wanna talk 💕

You're very welcome! I totally understand as I have nothing BUT negative thoughts about myself, despite how I may come across to others online. I beat myself up over everything, including the thought that I'm lazy, even though it's not laziness it's health and mental problems. But I still do it for some reason. I get what you're saying though. I think that maybe most people in general just figure if someone acts and looks "normal" and acts happy, that there's nothing wrong with them at all, unlike a broken arm or something you can see. Aw, thank you so much, I appreciate that! I hope you have a better day! <3

I relate to the lazies a lot as well. I'm frequently sleep-deprived (sleep debt from university is the best, lol) and I definitely struggle with labeling myself as "being lazy" if I'm feeling unmotivated to do "something productive with my time" and when I feel guilty for taking breaks.

Like Lori, I don't have strong feelings about the game labeling this group of villagers as such. It's only really damaging when we take these labels to heart and blame ourselves for "acting in certain ways", even if they're completely normal human behaviours. I hope you've had a good day! <3

Initially, it did bother me a little that they named the personality types after stereotypes, but now I’m fine with it since it is a game that’s meant for enjoyment and as an adult, I know better than to label people.

I can’t say I’m fond if the new bug talk in the dialogue, but aside from that, I love lazies. I wish I could watch anime or play video games with them in the game ^,^ or join them sometimes during their snack time.

while i love the lazy villagers, i’m not particularly fond of their name, either; “lazy” can be a very hurtful word, especially used in relation to someone who has chronic health issues or mental health issues of any kind (i fall into the latter category).

that being said, i think the lazy villagers themselves are adorable; i love all their lil quirks (though i could live without the bug dialogue lmao), i just wish the personalities weren’t named after stereotypes, if that makes sense ;v;

I love the lazy personality as well! I find them to be super sweet, like a little brother almost. (I'm an only child so my idea of a "little brother" may be skewed, lol.) I do often find myself feeling "lazy" and struggle with telling myself that I'm not. Negative thoughts enter heads too easily.

However, the name "lazy" doesn't really bother me. I understand where it might for others, but I try to keep everything in AC as light hearted as possible. If you ever want somebody to talk to, my inbox is always open!

I may not relate to lazy villagers but l sure do love them. So many good lazy villagers out there with nice designs! I own many lazy villagers and ones l had in the past.
