Every generation had their own flaws that made it the worst Pokémon generation in that area. From all the main series Pokémon games (not counting remakes), what was your least favorite part in each game?

Gen 1: There's no trainer rematches or post game (aside from catching mewtwo). The Elite Four feels final. Also a severe lack of bag space.

Gen 2: The rocket hideouts are lengthy and there's several in a row.

Gen 3: They removed the day/night cycle. (...why take out a cool new feature)? also the kanto remakes don't let you evolve the new pokemon into johto forms. Why can't I have a crobat.

Gen 4: it's slow :c platinum fixes this to an extent, but the animations are still a slog.

Gen 5: There's a serious lack of wild pokemon variety in the early game. Black/White 2 does fix this.

Gen 6: ...It's too easy. I know Pokemon isn't hard, but this is mind numbing.

Gen 7: For some reason, many of the trainers only battle with one or two pokemon. Also they locked out mega evo's until the post game.

Gen 8: Dynamax was the beginning of the gimmicks becoming unnecessary.

Gen 9: It was an attempt at making an 'open world game' except the levels don't scale, so what's the point?

Gen 1: As someone in fan-made game said it best, the types were unbalanced and the designs were bland. : D

Gen 2: The variety of Pokemon to catch isn't really a lot IF you take out ALL Pokemon that weren't introduced in this generation. The game honestly relies on Kanto a bit too much, to the point that it's included in post-game.

Gen 3: Too much H20 to be honest. 😟

Gen 4: Lack of available Pokemon to catch, but Platinum fixes this. My favorite gen.

Gen 5: This one is REALLY nitpicky, but the main character designs are kind of bland. Same for B2/W2.

Gen 6: Fairy type is dumb imo, at least with the way it was handled. Bonus: Mega evolutions weren't given to a lot of Pokemon that actually needed them.

Gen 7: The handholding and long cutscenes kill this for a lot of people. 😟

Gen 8: The story was actually kind of terrible compared to the other games, and the characters felt bland. Hop is also a pushover as a rival, just like Hau. Bonus: Unwanted Charizard fanservice in the form of Champion Leon.

Gen 9: The glitches that could happen in Tera raids are annoying.

Gen 1: Pokémon in battle sprites are pretty bad in RB (Yellow is slightly better and more tolerable) and the glitches pose a problem as a few of them will completely corrupt your game.

Gen 2: Batteries in the carts are always all dead in ones that have been used.

Gen 3: Same problem with batteries as Gen 2, impossible to complete the National Dex outside of Japan, fake copies too common now and the authentic games are being sold for extremely ridiculous prices

Gen 4: Trying to get female Combee, Munchlax, or Heracross from Honey Trees, the method of obtaining Spiritomb is extremely long and tedious and impossible to do if you don’t have any friends or a second DS, Feebas is extremely frustrating to get

Gen 5: The Dream World in general because of how you could only use it for an hour per day, could only choose one Pokémon from each area and sometimes you got two rare Pokémon in the same visit, only way to far, for any Berries in the entire Gen, and necessity of needing Wi-Fi to use the feature and then the entire server and site shutting down less than a year after BW2 were released which had their own rare Dreamworld exclusive Pokémon. Oh and half the medals are completely locked now because they require both the internet and Dreamworld.

Gen 6: XY felt incomplete, the Medal system being locked exclusively to the official site is annoying, and I didn’t get the gifts promised to me for having a Dreamworld account when the changes to the site for XY had happened

Gen 7: I was actually pretty satisfied with this Gen.

Gen 8 and 9: No in-game GTS, Home not causing trade Evolutions to happen (I get why held item trade evolutions don’t work but not Shelmet and Karrablast not evolving after being traded for one another)

Wow, I really needed this considering my recent apathy toward the franchise. Let's see now...

Gen1: Psychic is unbalanced. Ghost type is bugged. Limited bag space. No post game. Pokemon sprites were awful. Yeah its the first gen but it doesn't get a pass they could've done better.

Gen2: Level scaling is atrocious. Normal moves like Return make everything trivial. Dark doesn't get a badge boost. Some new mons are in post game Kanto like Larvitar and Houndour. Rocket plot line was lame.

Gen3: No connection with Gen2 made me sad. No day-night cycle, even in FRLG so you can never get Espeon/Umbreon in those games.

Gen4: HM madness in the overworld for the Sinnoh games, even in HGSS sometimes.

Gen5: Lack of mon diversity in BW. This was fixed in B2W2

Gen6: Very easy with ExpShare. Even without it you can solo the game with your starter if you want. Forgettable characters in XY. Seriously I can't really remember much of the games. Sky battles were meaningless and responsible for Flying mon models to be airborne for multiple gens.

Gen7: Ultra Beasts are horrid designs but maybe that was the point??? Handholding and cutscenes make repeat runs excruciating. Lusamine should've been more evil.

Gen8: SWSH story was terrible. Villains weren't villains. Even Rose isn't really a villain so it didn't feel like anything was at stake. Gimmick was unnecessary to the point I wanted Z-moves back lol

Gen9: Villains weren't villains again (this is getting tiresome). Glitches and bugs make game experience awful. Open world wasn't really open world: no level scaling, lots of nothing and felt unfinished. Tera is better than Dynamax but now I'm tired of gen gimmicks and just want better games lol

Gen 1: Gen 9 gets a lot of hate for bugs, but after playing my fair share of Gen 1 the number of bugs and programming errors is wild. Also the balancing is terrible. Just get a good a psychic type and watch everything get nuked.

Gen 2: I love Gen 2 but what is this level curve!? Also the majority of new Pokemon are only available in the post game in Kanto… why!? From a lore standpoint that doesn’t make any sense nevermind from a game design one. Also as cool as it is that you get to explore Kanto, at the same it’s boring compared to how you get to explore it in Gen 1.

Gen 3: My fave gen but not without its issues. No day/night cycle was probably the worst, I’m glad this came back for its remakes at least. It didn’t bother me as a kid but not having compatibility at all with Gen 1 and 2 sucks. It also made the Pokédex near imposssible to complete. I still never have in this gen.

Gen 4: Soooooo sloooooooow. Saving a lot of data… endless Chansey/Blissey health bar… the Great Marsh… You get the idea… I finally got ahold of Platinum years later but I suffered with Diamond for well over a decade. As did many people as third games never sold as well as most already had at least one of the first two games.

Gen 5: Not a fan of the graphics style here. Gen 3 and 4 looked so good but the pixelly trying to be 3D but also not really at the same time is just eh. Also why not make the region based on the Untied States as a whole instead of just New York City? I always saw a Pokemon adventure as travelling far and wide through the wilderness not just cities.

Gen 6: Of all gens this gen is just too easy. I even play with the Exp share off and purposely don’t use Mega Evolutions and it’s still not very hard. I know I’m older now and know the series pretty much inside and out but even when revisiting every game Gen 6 by far comes off as the easiest.

Gen 7: I didn’t like how the sequels were handled. The Ultra games had features that the first games should have already had or been in an update. Sure the story was different (and worse) but it felt like a slog to play only a slight different take on the same game. At least in Gen 5 Black2/White2 were proper sequels that actually felt worth playing after their first games.

Gen 8: What is this story!? I know Pokemon typically doesn’t have super amazing stories but this is just awful. Also the Zacian/Zamazenta animation of just turning on the spot is so bad. You’d think for the boxart mascots they’d put in proper animation but nope.

Gen 9: Mainly just lacks overall polish. Too many frame drops and glitches. Raids are fun but the bugginess takes away from them for sure. Also in general I do like the open world style but other things have suffered due to it. Towns and cities don’t feel as real anymore since you can no longer explore inside of the buildings and I can’t even be bothered to fight trainers since you don’t even have to.

Overall I have enjoyed every Gen when I’ve played them despite these criticisms.

To those who complain about the sixth generation, what’s wrong with making the game so easy? I don’t see it as a bad thing.

If you can beat every gym, Elite Four member, and the champion on your first try and it’s not because you’re overleveled, then it’s a sign of poor game design. I hate grinding in Pokemon games, but it’s also not fun if you don’t have to put in any effort to win. Then it’s just boring. It’s a better idea to just have things like the EXP share be optional (it technically is but they should have let you be able to use it the way it used to work) to make the game easier while still having some difficulty. I don’t even dislike that game but I agree that it’s way too easy.

Gen 1 - there are riches of glitches, but it's nothing too crazy unless you intentionally go looking for the real nasty ones lol the one really annoying glitch that is always active and could screw you over is the 1/256 miss glitch, in which a move with supposed 100% accuracy has the potential to randomly miss. The sprites are ugly but that's what gives them charm 😂 some are so ugly they're memorable. My main issue is lack of postgame. After you catch Mewtwo, that's it. There are no new areas to explore or Trainers to battle. FRLG fix this problem completely. Also with glitches a person could fill out the Pokédex all by themselves.

Gen 2 - the fact that for some stupid reason you can't catch Mareep in the wild in Pokémon Crystal... Gym Leaders such as Morty and Jasmine getting the short end of the stick by not having a Misdreavus or a Skarmory on their teams, respectively. Bugsy being stuck with Gen 1 bugs. HGSS gives them proper Gen 2 mon representation in their rematches, at least.

Gen 3 - Wally and May/Brendan having lackluster teams. Your rival never even fully evolves their starter. ORAS obviously fixed this. The excess surfing routes never really bothered me. Also the main problem with FRLG is that you can't evolve certain Pokémon until you get the National Dex.

Gen 4 - Rock Climb. Enough said.

Gen 5 - there's not much to dislike about this one. I actually really liked that in BW we were restricted to only using Gen 5 mons until the postgame. I enjoyed being able to use something new rather than sticking with the usual Crobats, Dragonites and Eeveelutions. I'd say the one thing I don't like is that after Gen 5, they never brought back seasons 😢 also goodbye Dream World...

Gen 6 - rushed, forgettable, extremely lame rivals, weak Gym Leaders, weak everything lol Team Flare is garbage imo all of the battle themes suck except the XY Legendaries and Mewtwo/Bird Trio battle. I genuinely enjoy them. And of course, the biggest issue is that it's way too easy, with or without EXP share. Pokémon is never Dark Souls level of difficulty, unless you play with certain self-made or fan-made rules/restrictions, but these games are just on a whole other level of easy, it's pretty insulting lol they even spoil you with Gen 1 starters, who get Megas instead of the actual Gen 6 starters. Poor Kalos, it deserved better honestly... Also wow of course Lucario, Garchomp, Gengar, Charizard and Mewtwo get Megas, just more "poster boy" attention lol if you ask me, every mon that got a Mega should have gotten 2, one for X and one for Y. I think a Y version of Mega Ampharos could have been neat.

Gen 7 - Lillie and her family totally carry it LOL no but really, the main thing I hate is how they made it seem like USUM were going to be true sequels a la BW2, but nope. It's just a crappy retelling of events and features that should have already been in Sun/Moon. Fortunately I didn't pick up USUM. Another thing I didn't like was that only Gen 1 mons got love with the regional variant concept.

Gen 8 - I didn't bother to pick up SwSh. Dexit is the worst thing ever. I've seen playthroughs of it, though. I agree that the villains and story is trash. The rival is boring. I don't care about Dynamax and Gigantamax. Mostly Gen 1 mons getting all the love as always, such as Charizard and Gengar, the usual. I was surprised that Butterfree got one because "omg who even uses a Butterfree" lol

Gen 9 - tried way too hard to be as ambitious as possible on a time crunch. It's Pokémon. At the end of the day it's Pokémon, it doesn't need to be some crazy open world thing like everyone else is doing ever since BotW. Levels don't scale with your team. Team Star is lame as hell, Nemona is one note, Penny is overrated. Arven is fine but his story with the Professor could have been much more interesting. Dexit still sucks.

I will probably update the more I play the games again since it's been a while on certain games.

Gen 1 (Red, Blue, Yellow)

The fact you can't find a Pikachu in the wild means your Pikachu is the only one left. Honestly, why did they do this. Pokemon Yellow is pretty much the game where you play as Ash.

Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal)
I had such a weird glitch where it lost my pokemon in the boxes, and I had to start over ;_;

Gen 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Firered & Leafgreen)

Wally and his Gardevior, we hardly ever had any proper battles with him, despite him really wanting to prove himself and we hardly ever saw him about? He's got like two battles. I did like the story he had, but I don't think it was really displayed as much well as it could, like how Bianca's story was in Black and White.
The fact he got all the way to Victory Road as well and nothing really came from it other than the fact he decide to go back which just made his whole story fall flat.

Gen 4 (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold & SoulSilver)
Okay! I already saved a minute ago, but better save before this gym leader - SAVING A LOT OF DATA
Also, yes, Rock climb is evil. Definitely when the item that is there isn't very well needed after defeating 8 gym leaders.
I wish there was a way to get the online gifts, I know there is a way but I seriously need help, I can do it with Gen 5, but I seriously need help figuring out how to get them in gen 4. I really wanna do the stuff like Celebi or Shaymin and can't.

That one in game trade who trades you a haunter and trolls you.

The phone calls are nice and all, but half the time the people added to the phone are useless. The phone also doesn't stop, until you pick up or go into a building. The people I wanna hear from, that say they're gonna find cool stuff to give me, never hardly ring. And I've reset my games on this gen for a bit and don't remember them ringing.

Gen 5 (Black&White, Black 2 & White 2)

The only thing I can think of is Dreamworld. Never really understood what it was, I was not an active search everything online gamer, I just played the game. And now the fact wifi and online stuff is gone, I will never understand it. Plus something to do with the Cloud pokemon as well? Something I also think we can't do now?

Gen 6 (X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire)

Vivillion's different region patterns was a nice idea, but if you didn't seek online people to trade with, there was no way to really get a lot of the cool patterns. :/ And then, there was the time when the trading GTS I swear everyone asked for a legendary just for this pokemon or something stupid like that.

Lumoise City...
I know we're getting Z A, but the city better be better than what we had to live through. The angle everything was, being on skates and bumping into everything, walking into areas you weren't wanting to do, the sudden swerve of the camera when trying to go back.
The ghost girl looking for the right person, and you were never the person she was looking for (ohh do you think they will finally add what that meant in the new one?) I like mysteries but not when nothing is answered.

Gen 7 (Sun/Moon, Ultra Sun/Moon, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee)

As much as it was kinda a nice change to battling gym leaders, the things you had to do were super easy. Also hated the rotom dex. Wasn't really my thing, and it kinda irritated me sometimes.

Throwing the pokeball physically never works well enough and I lose a lot of poke balls. Flash backs to the wii 0-0 which I never had but I knew the pain. Also unsure why it was ever called Let's go in the first place, just keeps reminding me of the pokemon go app.

Gen 8 (Sword n Shield, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Legends Arecus)

I have yet to really finish the Sword n Shield game, but from things online, the villian isn't at all like great.
Also yes, Pokemon become stronger when you make them into parade floats.

Gen 9 (Scarlet & Violet)
I miss the fact we used to be able to roll about in Arcues, I dunno why that was removed here. Also miss the fact that since it's open world, why can't the pokemon wanna attack you? They just stand around you, wondering what you are. (Except Tauros, but like SCREW THEM, why did they make it so I would just hate them now?)

Also, the map just doesn't work well enough for me. I continue to get lost despite using it.

Gen 1 - Glitches. Although I can’t say I’ve played much gen 1 but if I look at it from a current perspective, rather than just the games, my least favourite thing would be the constant bias towards gen 1 pokemon. I understand Pikachu as it’s the mascot but if I never saw charizard again I would be mad

Gen 2 - Grinding seems like the obvious one but I didn’t mind it. I like feeling like I’ve put effort into raising my Pokémon rather than the current EXP share. The level curb however, very annoying.

Gen 3- Thinking about it I actually love gen 3. The rivals aren’t developed very well though.

Gen 4 - LOVE IT. Probably Mount coronet or the snow route but honestly great gen.

Gen 5 - To me is perfection and what Pokémon should be. I want Gen 5 style mixed with Octopath Traveller. I do however HATE HATE HATE Pokestar studios and it is the bane of my existence. I cannot explain how much I hate Pokestsr Studios.

Gen 6 - The gap between Gym 1 and Gym 2 really made me feel like it was gonna be a really fleshed out game on my first play through. Then the lacing just goes to ass.

Gen 7 - I don’t really remember much about Alola tbh. I really want to play it again, but I do remember the hand holding for the first hour and a half of the game annoying me.

Gen 8 - Ass booty rubbish game. Everytime any story event happens Leon does it off screen and you just fight the gym. I want to be INVOLVED in the story. I was so excited for a UK based region and love a lot of the Gen 8 Pokémon. The starters SUCK though.

Gen 9 - I hate every Pokémon design in this region other than like 3. It’s the first game where I have ditched my starter and the majority of my team were not from the region which is really disappointing. A main part of my excitement in a first play through is using new Pokémon and I just don’t like them. Also Terastal hats look SOOOOOO stupid. It’s arguably the most fun I’ve had playing a Pokémon game but also the worst Pokémon game I’ve ever played.

gen1: i feel like i can excuse pretty much anything with these games because they were working with basically nothing but a slap on the back from nintendo, but if i had to choose i'd say probably the sprites. theyre so bad lol

gen2: there truly is not much i can criticize gen2 on mostly because im extremely biased and love them but if i had to choose, i'd say probably the lack of johto pokemon in johto. i understand the choice to give players a reason to explore kanto again, but like come on. it gets to the point where there's some pokemon i forget are even gen2 pokemon even when i love these games to death.

gen3: i have so much fun with these games but once i get to tate and liza they lose me a little bit. i feel like the pace just really slows down weirdly enough for almost getting to the climax of the story

gen4: they're not as slow as people think they are. especially dppt. my only problem is the surfing speed honestly. but my real problem is the sinnoh story is so brutal and uninteresting to me. i love the environment of the region though so i will replay platinum, but dp are a snoozefest. hgss are perfection could not ask for a better game period end of convo

gen5: i feel like the proportions of the characters don't work as well as people think they do? like thats super nitpicky but i just feel like they're tall but chibi? idk. it makes them look older which i think is what they were going for, but also compared to gen 4 graphics. its just not as nice to look at imo.

gen6: 70 new pokemon is not enough and i hope they never pull that bs again. i never use older pokemon in a run so kalos teams are super limited to choose from. i also really wish theyre were kalos megas. praying for z-a we get mega kalos starters, mega goodra, and mega heliolisk i would be so happy.

gen7: i haven't played these games since they came out but i just cannot stand them. the story is bad, the pacing is bad, the characters are annoying. i'd have to do another playthrough to really solidify my thoughts, but i truly feel like i will never understand why people like these games.

gen8: they're SUPER linear. i love games where you can explore, find side projects or random side areas to discover. that's something i think gen2-4 gets really well. these games are kinda the worst example of a modern pokemon game. there's nothing to do other than the main story and the wild area but the wild area isn't than fun.

gen9: i love the direction they're going in, but the games are so unfinished. the textures, the whole region. it feels so bare and unpolished. at the very least galar had some depth to it, but if theyre going with this open world region direction, they gotta figure out how to make it look good. if not, go back to gen 6/7 graphics.

gen 1: getting screwed over if you picked Yellow. my poor Pikachu doesn't stand a chance against Brock.
gen 2: Ice Path. enough said.
gen 3: too many Japan exclusive events (looking at you, Old Sea Map)
gen 4: honey trees. LET ME HAVE A STUPID MUNCHLAX
gen 5: the sheer amount of new Pokemon is overwhelming. I just wanted to see a Poochyena before the post game... (I would've said the anime, but I started the anime with B/W, so nostalgia points there)
gen 6: the friend group. I was already overwhelmed with ONE rival, now you're saying I have 4!? no thanks.
gen 7: THE. STUPID. LEVEL. CURVE. Even with EXP. Share on, I still find myself losing to Nanu at least 20 times before I get to FINALLY leave after beating him.
gen 8: the whole Darkest Day subplot. Can I please just go through the champion's cup WITHOUT a world-ending crisis?
gen 9: too many story paths. I get that it's an open world game, but throw more than 2 stories at me and I get overwhelmed.
Legends: the pokemon that can attack you. You're saying that a Shinx can get angry at you for existing near it, but a Buneary is afraid of people?

I mean at the legends one sort of does make sense at least. The Shinx is like a mountain cat sorta while a Buneary is a bunny who runs from everything

I have a lot to say about this. TOO MUCH to say. But nevertheless, here we go!

Gen 1: Gen 1 has a lot of balance issues in general, as everyone knows. Really, certain decisions regarding types and moves just make me wonder what on earth Gamefreak was thinking. Dragon Rage is the only dragon move (with fixed damage). Why? Why is the Ghost type physical?

Also, a personal annoyance is that trap moves like Wrap and Fire Spin are incredibly annoying in this generation because you can't attack while you're being Wrapped. So if the Wrap-user is faster than your Pokemon, then you can get stuck in a vicious cycle. Same with Sleep, where waking up removes the ability for your Pokemon to act that turn.

Gen 2: Several Gen 2 Pokemon are only available in post-game. It's not only mechanically frustrating, but lorewise it makes zero sense why these Pokemon are only found in Kanto.

Also Ghost being Physical is even more ridiculous now that they've introduced moves like Nightmare and Shadow Ball - Shadow Ball even lowers the target's Special Defense! Even more goofy is that the newly introduced Dark type, with moves like Bite, Crunch, Pursuit, and Beat Up, is Special. I don't think I'll ever understand Gamefreak's logic.

Gen 3: I generally don't have complaints about the mainline Gen 3 games. I am sad about the legendaries locked behind event distributions that I - of course - missed out on. You can't get access to things like the Mystic Ticket or Old Sea Map nowadays without cheating or using ACE.

For FRLG, I think they went too far with trying to make the first part of the game an authentic Gen 1 experience. People have already mentioned not being able to evolve Pokemon into forms that aren't in the original Kanto dex, which just seems like an arbitrary limitation to me. You can't even trade Pokemon from the RSE dex until you not only complete the game, but also catch 60 Pokemon for your dex; again, an arbitrary limitation. The 'faithful remake' troubles were here way before BDSP.

Gen 4: I've mentioned in another topic that I think that Gen 4 suffers from Legendary bloat. It's not the only generation with a lot of legendaries, but it will always be the most egregious offender in my head, probably because I don't like pretty much any of them. In particular, it added way too many event/mythical Pokemon, including Arceus who couldn't even be officially obtained in its own origin generation (at least I think that's the case; I know that the Azure Flute was never distributed because "too complicated").

It's hard to come up with complaints for HGSS but I'm going to do it anyway. The phone calls are way too rampant in the remakes, much more so than in the originals. And it's always something goofy like that Youngster telling me how awesome his Rattata is or people saying that they failed to KO a wild Psyduck.

Gen 5: The way they handled Black City/White Treehollow in Black and White is based on the number of days it took you to reach it, which is just bizarre. On my first playthrough, my Black City was a deserted wasteland because I took too long to get there. What a bizarre feature to put in an RPG.

When your Pokemon achieves movie star status in BW2, it gets an animation when it's sent out. If that Pokemon was shiny, the animation overwrites its shiny sparkles. I know there are people who like this, but I can't overstate how much I loathe this. Please don't mess with my Pokemon's shiny sparkles, Gamefreak. Thank goodness it doesn't transfer outside of Gen 5.

This didn't bother me when the game came out, but now that I'm really into ribbon collecting, I'm miffed that there are no ribbons in Gen 5. I'm also convinced that Gen 5 won't get a remake, so there will most likely never be a Unova Champion title. The only upside to this is that at least this means there are no ribbons that are now lost forever because of being tied to the Dream World or something.

On that note, Gen 5 also relied far too much on wifi connectivity type things. Dream World, Join Avenue, the GTS, the medal system - they all tie so much into interactions that are difficult to impossible without an active streetpass and wifi playerbase. I really enjoyed Dream World, and I miss having it available.

Gen 6: Everyone says XY are too easy and I bet they're right but I can hardly remember anything about this game at all. Cities, characters, routes; it's all a blank, despite my generally having enjoyed the game. So I guess I would say this is the least memorable game.

For ORAS, I really did not like the Dexnav sneaky thing. It made me feel like there was no point at all in just catching regular old wild Pokemon when Pokemon with hidden abilities/egg moves/good IVs appear only by dexnav chains, and I just didn't like doing it at all. Then I'll be running around and a shaky grass patch will appear under my feet and then instantly disappear because I had the gall to just play the game like normal instead of sneak everywhere.

Also ORAS is the only game I can think of that just flat out GIVES you a free legendary (one of the Latis) midway through the game. Catching legendaries is probably my most disliked part of any Pokemon game, but there's just something inherently insulting about having a legendary with a mega stone plopped into my hands when I haven't even beaten all the gyms yet.

I also dislike pretty much everything about the Delta Episode.

Gen 7: There is a lot to fuss about in this generation. Of all the gens, gen 7 felt by far the most insultingly condescending. It also has my most disliked player character design. The festival plaza is a downgrade from Gen 6's PSS. Isle Evelup is a downgrade from Gen 6's Super Training. Wild Pokemon constantly calling for help make wild encounters more annoying than ever before. I also think this generation has the weakest shiny animation; I'm just not feeling the big Kirby star in lieu of the more traditional sparkles.

But I think the most annoying thing of all is Rotomdex, especially in USUM. It is constantly telling me I need to save (right after I've saved) and just hogging all the bottom screen space doing nothing other than being needy. It doesn't help that the roto lotto powers are quite useful so I end up feeling compelled to click on its stupid little sad face all the time and thus enforcing its bad behavior.

Gen 8: Dexit :( I know Dexit is not just a Gen 8 thing, but it started there, so Galar gets the blame. I also particularly hate that the GTS was moved to the Pokemon Home phone app; I can't even access it on my Switch, and for what reason? I think you also need a premium account to use it, too.

SwSH was not quite as insulting an experience as SM/USUM, but it was very close. Even if they want to say that these games are primarily made for children, nobody - children or adult - actually wants to be told to go run along and play and leave the (bad) plot to the adults. In that regard, the Darkest Day plotline was forced and Rose's motivation made no sense.

Bringing back breakable TMs is a decision I will never understand.

Dynamaxing is my least favorite battle gimmick. As a strictly storyline thing, it's a cool concept that fits the theme of Pokemon as a spectator sport. But mechanically, I hate pretty much everything about it.

I feel like Gen 8 introduced a Pay To Win element to Pokemon. Do you want to win with Urshifu and Calyrex? Better pay up for the DLC!

Dynamax Adventures takes the cake as my least favorite thing about this gen, though. I can sort of appreciate being able to shiny hunt legendaries (even though it canonically makes no sense why they're all here), but I really don't like modes that make you utilize rental Pokemon, and the horrible NPC AI makes it a really unfun experience.

Gen 9
: The performance and framerate issues are unacceptable. This game generally looks quite a lot worse than older Pokemon games; even SwSH looks more appealing, IMO.

The Pay to Win stuff became worse in this generation with Walking Wake and Iron Leaves being available only for limited time blocks. This would not be such a big deal if they were mythical Pokemon, but they aren't; you can use them for battling in formats where paradox Pokemon are allowed, and they're good, too.

I do not like Paradox Pokemon at all. I find myself more picky about Pokemon ever since Dexit was a thing, and now we've got 22 dex slots taken up by redesigns of Pokemon that already exist. It would be better if they had been regional variants because then at least something like poor Delibird could get an evolution, but no... Plus they muddled up an otherwise surprisingly good story with ridiculous multiverse nonsense.

Everything related to Snacksworth was a mistake. They clearly thought they were being funny turning legendary Pokemon into a big joke. You can't even shiny hunt them. And their IVs are messed up too (because of course they are).

Why am I forced to take pictures in selfie mode when my rotom phone can float?? It's like they thought that having all player pictures be in selfie mode was something that everybody would actively want over other options or something.

I don't like having to 'farm' Pokemon parts for TMs. It's weird and mean and completely unfitting. In most RPGs, you're taking trophies from hostile monsters trying to do you harm... but this is Pokemon. This is a world where people and Pokemon live in harmony! Now excuse me while I go hunt these wild Pokemon for their tears and sweat. On that note, it's kind of a shame to encounter a swarm of wild Pokemon you like and want to shiny hunt because of this, which was never a problem before. In the old games, random encounters seemed like you were getting jumped by aggressive wild Pokemon. Now most Pokemon just sit there not doing anything and YOU have to be the one to start siccing your trained Pokemon on them to cull their numbers until you get to the right place in the swarm to start searching for shinies. It's a brutal world.

Whoever made it to the end of this novel... thank you for reading.

Oh boy. I have some strong opinions on this subject.

Gen 1: It feels clunky to play, even for the time. I find the mostly rough pixel art sprites and glitches charming and fun, but I can't get over how tedious it is to play it.

Gen 2: The level curve and Pokemon distribution. Wild Pokemon are way too weak in every area to be useful to grind or add to your team, and many of Johto's best Pokemon are only in the postgame.

Gen 3: Many people will disagree with me on this, but I think the soundtrack of RSE lacked variety. A huge chunk of the soundtrack had the same MIDI trumpets, and it got really repetitive. I think the remakes have a better soundtrack because of the increased variety of instruments.

Gen 4: The slowness. Platinum and HGSS improved the speed, but returning to them can be difficult because everything takes longer than most other Pokemon games.

Gen 5: Poor Pokemon distribution. This only applies to BW1 and not the sequels. The opening few hours of the game are rough because it's repeatedly the same few Pokemon on everyone's teams. Things don't get better until around the second gym. Even then, the Plasma grunts have the same few Pokemon on their teams throughout the game.

Gen 6: In the past, my biggest complaint would've been the lack of a postgame, but now that it's the series standard, I'll go with the amount of hand-holding. With the EXP share on and the free items and Pokemon you're given throughout the game, nothing will pose a challenge, even for relatively new players. As a kid, I was terrible at Pokemon, and I still breezed through the whole game within three days back at launch.

Gen 7: Awful pacing. Gen 7 is the Pokemon game I've replayed the most, and the endless cutscenes and tutorials on the first island never got any easier. There's no way to skip any of them, and by the fifth playthrough, I just wanted to get it over with. Ultra Sun and Moon shortened the opening act, but it was still much longer than any other game in the series.

Gen 8: The story. Pokemon games have never had great stories, but the plot in this game was just miserable. Every character is rushed, Leon is the real protagonist, and many of the coolest moments of the game are implied offscreen. They heard everyone's complaints about the overemphasis on the story in Gen 7 and did the exact opposite with these games.

Gen 9: The performance and graphics. These were the first Pokemon games since Black and White 1 that I didn't get hooked on and finished within a week. I just couldn't stand how the games looked and how poorly they ran. I ran into so many glitches throughout my playthrough and recorded them. It was a step back from games released three years earlier on the same console.
