Jock villagers really get on my nerves lol. It makes me sad too because I love the character designs of certain jock villagers, but I feel as if I am always just overly disappointed in the dialogue that I get out of jock villagers. They are the most stream-lined out of all the different types out there, and the peppy villagers (I believe these are the ones who claim to want to be pop-stars, right?) come to a very close second. The difference between the two, though, is that I’m not constantly getting annoyed with peppy villagers because they are actually prettyyyyy cute.
Overall, though, I really with there was more work put towards expending the dialogue of the villagers in the Animal Crossing world. I was hoping the dialogue situation would be improved after New Leaf, but tbh I kind of feel as if it got worse. It makes it to where I don’t even care what type of villager my villagers themselves are because I already know they’ll have the exact same dialogue as a different villager I already had, I just kinda care about who the villager is since it’s all there really is to look forward too with picking out the differences between villagers.
That being said, I kind of miss how mean villagers could get from the very first Animal Crossing game. I think the dialogue was a lot funnier back then, and it made getting to know the villagers seem a lot more worthwhile (not to say I particularly love to get yelled at, I just feel as if it added more character). Maybe Nintendo will choose to add more dialogue and stuff in a future update though? Idk!
For me, jocks are my least favorite but I still love them! They're just ranked lowest on the list and I'm not a very sporty person. I agree, sometimes the dialog can get so repetitive especially with multiples of the same personality types. To me dialog should be the easiest to put in. Doesn't take a lot of time to write and it doesn't take up a lot of space to put in more text so why not add more variety? I suppose it's hard to translate to all the different languages but still.
I voted Smug. I've always felt uncomfortable when they were a little too familiar/flirtatious with me. It's nothing severe, and I think all the personalities are decent at least. Previously I would've said Jock, but they've grown on me a lot due to the relationships I've formed irl with gym rats.
Normal villagers are a little bland in ACNH, and I agree they were nothing great in ACPC either. I think they were a great balance between sweet and offbeat in previous games, but now they're very withdrawn and mundane... which is kind of how I act due to my social anxiety, so I can't bring myself to hate on them. Plus their designs are so great.
I personally don't hate any, but I guess it would come down to jocks just based on the fact they mainly talk about working out 24/7, though I still enjoy it.
I like all of the villager types, however I'm fairly concerned for the mental wellbeing of Jocks, especially in the English script of the latest entry in the series. Their work-out obsession -- particularly the exaggerated claims of running hundreds of miles daily or lifting objects disproportionately heavier than their own body weight -- implies a disturbing detachment from reality.
I cringe a little when reading their dialogue from my brother's screen, because I just have to ask myself "Do these guys need counselling...?"
Perhaps they'd do well to focus a little less on physical health and a little more on mental health.
