I think I'd rather have a shorter life in the place I grew up that have a longer life on a strange planet that I know literally nothing about. It won't have any signs of civilization or industrialization, it'll be different, even if it's similar to earth structurally."

"I'm not," I say. I then walk outside, into the crisp morning air, and lie down on the grass, staring up at the sky. It helps calm me down, after getting quite heated in the conversation about the portal.

(Well, the world isn't exactly going to end immediately, why not have everyone trying to rebuild, and develop a way to prevent it without having to leave?)
