List of Villagers Based on Popularity

Congrats, Merengue!
I am going to miss Marshal being #1 , though.

also, good job for eugene from going from #30 to #27 gj eugene

Who was number one before marshal?

This thread was created in November, and there was no popularity thread before then..

However, when I first joined the forum, it was clear that the top 3 consisted of 1. Julian, 2. Merengue and 3. Marshal.. After that, Julian tumbled downward quite quickly, Marshal shot up, and Stitches took the number 2 spot, which is when I then created the thread

Nobody. Marshal was #1 when this thread was created.

edit: oops ninja'd

Geez I don't understand why some people are making such a fuss about this thread,
it's just an estimate and does it really matter that much anyway?
I mean, dividing into tiers is an excellent value system for villager trading and selling (starting to sound like a slave dealer here, welp), but debating over the placement of villagers within a tier? Really?
Saying who you think should be first is fine and all, but accusing the list maker to be biased or flipping tables at every change is so ridiculous.

I encourage people to debate over the placement of villagers.. It does give me a second set of eyes when it comes to placing villagers.. I do a decent job doing this alone, but having help of who to look out for is a nice thing :)

However trust me, I've had a few people practically shout at me to move a villager, haha.. You get used to it after a while :)

I like to think this list is here to help everyone on TBT (and maybe other sites, who knows) to get a decently accurate representation of the all the villagers popularity :) .. And that's why I created this list in the first place

Okay, here's where your view is misguided.

MANY people will be able to tell you that I absolutely despised Merengue for a very very long time.. It's only very recently that I've actually started to see the nice side of her and have incorporated her into my town.

As well as this, I am also known for despising Julian. I think he's one of the worst villagers of all time and I think anybody who likes him is slightly insane. I share this view with Diana, she's also the worst deer and is a terrible villager.

I'm also a bit meh with Marshal, I don't see the hype with him and have no idea why he was number 1 for such a long time.

I'd like to point out that MANY different people have told me how accurate this list is in the past.. If that was to be the case, how could I possibly be biased? This list is dedicated to accuracy (as much as possible) and precision.

It'd be nice if you got your facts straight before accusing me of something like that, because trust me, if this list was biased, Eugene would be number 1, and number 1 would be where he stays.

Yes, this how behaviour influences opinions in someone. Once you make a public commitment on an issue, even if it is initially against your opinion, the simple fact of public commitment starts modifying the strength of that very opinion.
It is a very well research social psychology mechanism.
The next thing that will happen is that more you will defend the opinion, stronger it will become, and less and less you will even ponder on the possibility that you might be wrong.
For example: One option is that people who disagree with you might post less and less in this topic. Why? Well, for a variety of reasons: by fear of becoming unpopular, or because they noticed how inflexible you often are with people who disagree, or etc, etc. lol

But honestly, I really don't want to wind you up or upset you.
You have done a reasonably good job with this topic, even if it deviated to an extent from the original aim.

In my opinion, this type of strictly and inflexible classifications might upset some AC players, who will end up by thinking that their loved villagers are somehow worthless. And this no matter how much you try to "neutralise" the effects of the topic in your previous statements.
Another issue is that as this topic is sticky, more and more new people will read it, and will align their views to it. Sticky topics have on forums the effect of "authority view" (another more recently studied social psychology phenomenon).
So even if they thought that (for example) "tier 1 villagers" are not what they like, they will start thinking "oh, I want to be popular, I want tier 1 villagers" and put some of them in their "wish lists" (on which you apparently mainly base your classification). In this respect, the classification becomes self-fulfilling.

The only genuine "rating of popularity" (if you really need something like this) is what people who never saw this (or similar topics) say that they want in their towns.

You really don't need to lecture me with your psychology details. I've done psychology for three years, I know how things work.

I will address your answer in chunks.

First of all, you commented on my topic, it's rude not to answer, and I wanted to defend my decision for bumping Merengue up. Quite a few people have agreed with me moving her up and Marshal's decline. I don't see how I'm biased just because I like Merengue.

Secondly, I'm NEVER hostile, I'm always willing to listen to people's opinions, and I will always comment on what people have to say and take into account any changes people like to suggest. So suggesting that I'm likely to scare people by expressing my opinions is absurd.

Thirdly, I can't help it if people are to think some of their villagers are not worth much.. In my opinion, all villagers are worth something, and people should pay whatever price they think necessary for their beloved villager (and vice versa). However I created this topic simply to help people gauge where their villagers are when they wish to sell them, or if they are trying to look for them. Some people like a villager to be popular and let that shape their opinion of said villager, or the opposite, they want someone who's not very popular so they appear to be more diverse.

Next, the mods have already recognised this thread as being useful, which is why it's stickied.. A few people have expressed their views with this thread that it is wrong and should not be stickied, but the mods have mentioned on previous occasions that it is stickied because it helps people out. That is the sole purpose of the thread.

Lastly, you mentioned that I would increasingly think that I'm not wrong because I'm defending my decisions. This is absolute rubbish. Humans make mistakes, and I'm human.. I'm never always right, and I'm sure that some people believe that Merengue's placement at number 1 is a mistake.. As I mentioned before, this is a test to see what happens.. I do think that Marshal and Merengue are relatively on par, but Merengue's slipped slightly ahead which is why she's moved forward slightly. I'm sure that things will change in the future.

As well as this, the fact that you're replying to me is making it clear that you ARE trying to wind me up. So to avoid any more arguments on this thread, if you wish to continue this conversation, PM me with your views, or else I will report your posts, because they're not really adding anything constructive to the thread.

Oh wow, I didn't realize Phoebe was so popular.
Now I know I may be able to fetch a pretty penny for her ;)

On the other hand, I'm surprised to see Fuchsia at the bottom end of mid-tier.
Tumblr seems to love her so much, I would have put her much higher. Maybe it's just an overexposure thing.

I wonder if Hound00Med senses a conspicuous rise in the Smug sheep Pietro.

(I saw some Villager Trading Plaza threads on him this past weekend.)

Nana should maybe be moved up to tier four to replace Phil.
Poncho and Renee should be moved down
And I predict that Bam will drop to tier two and Lolly will be number 1.
Just my thoughts x2

I think Phil can stay where he is for now.. I don't think Nana will rise just yet.. I've got money on Axel rising to Tier Four however, I've seen him a fair bit recently..

Poncho and Ren?e do need to drop, yes, I've just been tryna figure out where to

Bam has recently held back onto his place in Tier One, so we'll see when he can drop, but for now he's staying..

I don't think Lolly will be the next number 1 .. As it stands, I actually think Ankha will be the next number 1 (other than Marshal)
