Live action Little Mermaid

What’s the deal with so many live action Disney remakes? They did this since 2014 IIRC.

Actually, it goes further back than that. The first live action remake they made is on Jungle Book, and that one was released in 1994. But then again, it didn’t become a trend until later.

I haven't watched any of Disney's live-action remakes, and I don't plan to start here. They just look like less interesting versions of the original movies.

Really, the only movies I think could be justified having a remake are the 1990s to early 2000s 3D animated movies, and even those are a stretch. And by "remake" I mean updating the animation quality, not shoving in live actors. I mean, they can make whatever they want if that's their decision, but that doesn't mean I'm going to watch it.

I doubt I'll watch it, unless the trailer looks really good. I haven't watched most of the live-action Disney remakes and I don't see a reason to watch this one. I really don't get the huge controversy over the casting, though. I don't know anything about the actress they cast to play Ariel but I don't have a problem with her and it really shouldn't matter what the color of her skin is.

Excited for this film even though it's still a long way off. No complaints with the casting choice.

I just assume they're extending their copyrights, rather than lobbying to do so, like have done before.

There’s no need to make live action films if they want to extend their copyrights. The copyright law protects a work made by them until 75 years after the publication date. Older Disney movies were made between 1923 to 1977, which are protected until 95 years after the publication date.

idc who they use as the cast ! i think its really good they're using a poc person to play ariel. and i really hope that the voice actors for the fish, crab, etc. are also played by poc c:
my favorite live action from disney has to be cinderella though ^^

I'm seeing headlines that Ariel is going to be played by a singer by the name of Halle Bailey. Thoughts? I have to look up who this is now.

I really think the movie is gonna look great, and the actress seems to be very talented. Yeah, she's black, not redhead like the animated one, but it doesn't really matter in this case. I mean, sure, remakes should be as accurate and similar as possible to the original ones, and the actors need to represent the race of the characters. I would be pissed off to see an east Asian Cinderella or a black Mulan, but it doesn't matter at all with the Little Mermaid.

Most disney princesses/characters have well-defined races/ethnicities, with Mulan being Chinese, Tiana being black, Mowgli being Indian, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Snowhite, etc. Being white, just to name a few. All these have well defined races, but mermaids do not. Mermaids don't even exist, so they do not belong to any race, not even if it's Denmark. As the Little Mermaid should be then played by a real mermaid, but we cannot, then you can cast her any actress, regardless of race
As I said it before, she does not belong to any country or human race. Her race is mermaid. I'm honestly more concerned about the librarian in The Beauty and the Beast being black, a kid being Indian, and other three girls being asian/black because THAT is historically inaccurate. Middle age France was FAR from being diverse at all.

These live actions are absolutely terrible. Can they just stop ruining childhood movies? Nothing beats the animated version. The acting in the live actions, and just the people playing them just don?t fit. Why doesn?t Disney just stick to stuff they know? Live action ANYTHING is a disaster. We?ve already had enough after the all the previous live action movies (including ones that weren?t made by Disney, ahem, Full Metal Alchemist). They?re so trash and I?m done with seeing some of my favourite childhood movies get ruined. Aladdin just absolutely killed it for me even more, that?s my favourite movie and once I saw they were making a live action of it I was done. Just stop, Disney. Please.
